While the a/v sync is completely off and the commentary rivaling that of John Burgess, this match is a must-see.

Take note of the pace and Hirano's forehand, as well as her short game and service. The spin level is unprecedented. Amazing stuff.

I have always felt that because her footwork is not forehand dominant and her backhand dominates very often that Hirano's forehand is very underestimated/underrated.
I like putting heavy topspin on the ball...

What a world of difference by switching to a male coach, right?

Remember the new Miu? When Nakazawa took over her, the first thing he did was to make her drop the "waiting-for-mistakes" style. And to do that, he forced her to prioritize and strengthen the forehand.

It all started around the Sweden Open last year.

Don't think it is the male or female coach issue. May be it is the coach own playing style. Miu's old coach believed Miu is better playing Yang Haeun's style. Then, Nakazawa wanted her to play LSW's style.

From time to time, people in China wonder why there have been so few, if any, female coaches on the Women's team. So far, no definitive conclusions have been reached. It isn't some thing simple like because the Chinese are sexist. Because then why would they use male players to train with female players? For you're actually competing against other females, right? It's only natural to train with other females, is it not? There's plenty of female training partners for that. There has to be merits to doing that, something that female players do not possess in general, as told by Ishikawa in a TV interview.

Take for example「女子技術男性化打法」(Masculinization of the female techniques), which had been pressed forward hard for over a decade but still not as widespread as one would expect, if you're a female coach, how would you approach something that you have not experienced before?

Dug up a video while searching.

It's posted by Zhang Cheng(the one you see in the WC video by NextLevel) back in June. In the description is the following, "这小正手调的,叫我乒乓李时珍...(This little forehand is tuned (well enough). Call me Table Tennis Li Shizhen...)" So he has a part in Hirano's forehand transformation.

Zhang Cheng has been employed by the JTTA as a sparring partner for roughly two years, according to one source.
