Let's get a thread going where we can share what we have planned for the New Year!

1. Serve, serve and serve. Practice more pendulum/reverse pendulum.

2. Aggressive service return. Especially sidespin.

3. Play against more pips players.

4. EJ less. Hey, I can try. Spend more on coaching, less on equipment. This may be a tough one because trying out new blades and rubbers is part of the fun and what keeps TT exciting!

5. Step on less training balls.

That's all I got for now.

Wishing everybody a Happy 2017!

Maintain  current level one year longer. Improvement is maybe not realistic.

Cause more trouble. (For opponents)

Move to Sacramento in Jan, look for TT action.

Enjoy visiting some of my West coast friends.

Make new friends and TT enemies.

Find some more kids on the rise who will have a good position to start TT programs in their schools.

The Sacramento, Auburn and Folsom clubs all have good play.  Are you moving there?

You will know my presence by all the new 40.5 mm holes in the TT hall wall and player uniforms.

I got a job there and will be there in a week or so.

I cause trouble wherever I go, but my idea of trouble is most peoples' idea of good clean TT fun.

Long standing goal has always been to break 2000, but any realistic appraisal of my lack of training, local opportunities or level of commitment says i will be lucky to get back above 1700. I think a better goak is to slowly start collecting some nice blades. I have EJed rubber enough. Maybe just adding one nice blade a year would be fun so i can see whart all the fuss is about.
Sword Yokahama Yue or Gambler Fire Dragon FLC or AVX J power or ?. Double inverted. Red on one side and black on the other. I can't seem to commit....

1. Play more pips players.

2. Throw less games. My last match of the new year I lost 3-0 being up 10-6 in game 1 and 7-1 in game 2.

Use the same rubbers and hopefully blades for the year.

Depending on where you live, Sacramento is a good starting tournament.  A one day tournament with about 150 players of all levels.  Many divisions and lots of play.

Good stuff, keep it coming!

BH-Man, rocketman222 and mts388, if you want to get together in the last week of January or so, let me know, it'd be great to have a hit!

NextLevel, that actually sounds like a good idea. I'm thinking of going Renaissance, putting aside the ZLC/ALC blades for a while and using wood blades. The Avalox BT555 blades are fun to play with, and I have a P700 (92 gms) on the way, so that will be fun. Not to mention the Fang Bo wood which is a solid blade , too.

Do you play in Sacramento now and then and have a rating around 1857?

1. Practice smarter.  Less cookie cutter type drills and more random training, serve and attack practice.

2.  Develop a playbook.  No more walking up to the table and just winging it when playing matches.

3.  Improved ball placement. Lots of multiball training with targets on the table.

4.  Make my best serves (backspin and pendulum) even better and develop a respectable reverse sidespin serve.

5.  More agressive play.  More backhand looping instead of backhand counterhitting, more forehand counterlooping instead of FH blocking, more over the table backhand loops instead of pushes.

Ah... I live in so cal. Was looking inot 1 or 2 star tourneys in the LA/OC areas :) haven't decided if I will get the year long membership and play in many tournaments. I'm assuming I'd need to play in 3 or 4 to break even?

I've never played in Sacramento, and work/travel hasn't allowed me to take part in USA tournaments, so I have no USATT rating.

Several months out of the year I lecture in mainland China (Zhongshan, Guangdong province to be exact- only 1.5 hr from Hong Kong), so I play regularly while I'm there, both at the Municipal TT Hall (where I receive coaching) as well as with the University's Table Tennis Association.

(1) Never use fancy TT shoes;
(2a) Continue to play ambitiously, yet (2b) first and foremost avoid injuries.

In fact, (2b) is my primary New Year resolution.

(1) Juic SBA (Fl, 85 g) with Bluefire JP3 (red max) on FH and 0.6 mm DR N Desperado on BH; (2) Yinhe T7 (Fl, 87 g) with Bluefire M3 (red 2.0) on FH and 0.6 mm 755 on BH.
