Has anybody here already played with the fairly new TSP blades Swat Speed and Swat Power? I am wondering how they are different from the "regular" Swat as I can't really find anything on this except what's given on the TSP website. I was also wondering if or what is different to the regular Swat in terms of thickness, construction of the 7 plies and if different top plies are used.
Thanks! |

Niwa Koki has recently switched to the Swat Power with V15>Extra. The thickness(6.0mm vs 6.6mm) and weight(85g vs 90g) are the only differences from the descriptions. Some test video to check out below.

@zeio: thanks for your reply and the video links.
Does that mean that the Swat Speed is somewhere in the middle between the Power and the regular Swat in terms of thickness and weight? |

Swat and Swat Speed have practically the same thickness and weight.
Check out the series page in which the models are compared in Power, Initial speed and Stability. The color of the wood also looks different between Swat and Swat Speed. |

The Swat series is used by many people here in Japan, particularly students. They are very good racket.
All the swat feels similar. medium - hard feel. It just gives you enough feeling on your hand but not too much. Speed is pretty decent. It is fast, but not super fast. The best thing about them is the price quality. The only con I have with them is if you use any chinese style rubber, it is way too heavy together. Edited by a23096713 - 06/05/2017 at 12:37pm |

Swat is actually slow by today's standard. It's rather soft and flexible for a 7-ply all-wood blade. Finding a heavy one is hard. The one I have is 79.1g.

swat power is a very great racket and i will be comparing the racket to the ever so popular viscaria FL i have recently just acquired the swat power and i absolutely love it. comparing the speed i think the tsp is similar to the viscaria if not faster, for an all wood blade the tsp is definitely an off+ racket it has the speeds of a carbon racket yet retaining the control of a wood racket. it has more control than the viscaria and is much lighter. i have set it up with rakza 7 for FH and tenergy 80 for BH and it is a great setup i can feel the difference between the racket right after the transition and i would say i like the tsp more than the viscaria. it is speed wise the same maybe slightly muted but it has alot of control the hits are sharp which is good for flicks and loops. It is definitely worth adding to your collection and worthy of the great player koki niwa. It is a great blade for players of all levels

For my piece, yes, due to the low weight. If it were 10g heavier, I'd probably rate it as OFF.

Probably one should not be comparing Swat to Clipper because of 10-15 g. difference. I have Samsonov Special edition (which is similar to clipper in composition). Swat and Samsonov both weigh ~80 g. Swat is noticeably thinner. It has been a while since I tried it but as I recall Swat was clearly more flexible and slower. Did not like Swat's FL handle that much. I may try it again soon. Will update.

I have briefly re-tested Swat with V42 rubbers: clearly slower than Samsonov Special, slightly higher throw, more flex. In my hands Swat is fairly slow on slow strokes (All+) but Off- on stronger strokes. Maybe the flex kicks in when I hit harder. Even further away from the table Swat provides more than enough power for my FH at the same time allowing excellent ball placement. Overall, Swat feels quite different from Samsonov Special. **Clarification: I am referring to the original Swat, not Speed or Power that the title is about.
