Topic: LXX just officially retires Posted: 01/07/2017 at 11:49am |
KLH announced that LXX just officially retires. It became a mystery whether LXX lost intentionally to DN in the Rio Olympics. LXX seems to complain about something a bit after the Olympics.
To me, LXX played well until the last two games during the Rio final. If DN lost to LXX again in that final, it will likely impact her confidence for the team event. SO there is speculation that LXX was ordered to lose.
LXX seems to be many fans' favorite. On the other hand, many peopel do not like DN.

The women's team is a mess right now, to be honest.

What's not to like about DN? Are they prejudiced against left-hamders?

Lots of people think she cheated vs. Liu Shiwen with that injury timeout in the worlds.

The general idea is that DN has never "earned" her spot in the trial/round-robin for majors. Not a single time. Every time she was 保送(sent by recommendation), earning her the nickname 丁保送.
Another point often argued is that she has a strong networking.

LXX wasn't born yesterday. She understands the CNT politics, and she was fine to lose to DN in the oly (some sort of hand over). LXX was unhappy with CNT that CNT don't want to let her go after the oly.
Ya, it is a mess in CWT right now

Yeah, and she continued on "cheating" after the break when she was barely able to step on that foot, and then in their next match in the doubles final. She might have exaggerated it a bit so that to mess with LSW's head, but imho that is 99% LSW's fault that she somehow managed to lose her momentum. It is a known fact that she has that problem - starting from 2010 WTTTC. She reminds me of a younger Ma Long there, but ML somehow overcame his mental issues, and LSW still seems to be stuck there. She was #1 in the world and still did not get selected to go to London or to Rio (in singles), or to win at any of the Worlds. Now's her chance - in 2017 - to try and claim the crown. Could be her last chance...

How DN looked like for an edge ball in her match against Kim SongYi In RIO. That does not look lovely to me.

What do you care if it looked lovely or not? The only (well, almost only) important question is "Was there an edge ball"? If not and it was obvious then okay, I get your irritation. Otherwise...

LXX leaves the game as one of the womens TT GOAT. Even though her body can no longer hold up to the rigors of the CNT, she is still the most skilled womens player of today's game. Best of luck to her.

True but Ma Long was only able to improve his mental issues after Wang Hao retired and the plastic ball was introduced. He does not display the mental strength of a Ma Lin or Schlager, guys who are always a threat even if down 10-6 or 3-1 in games. That is a true sign of mental strength. But Ma Long does have a good way of solving that problem - don't put yourself in a position where you are down. That's why it's important for Ma Long to always be the front runner even if he's 8-1 ahead.
I have noticed recently though that Ma Long is now more relaxed when he is down and does not self-destruct as easily. I suppose being a Grand Slam champion can have that effect.

One could argue that the ability to start each game strong and not get down is it's own form of mental strength.
