I recently went to look at the World Rankings today. I was surprised to not seeing Zhang Jike's name. There's no news whatsoever about why this happened, so I'm assuming he's retired. Is he?

There was a new rule by ITTF in 2009 or 2010, that once a ranked player has gone inactive for 4 months, he/she would be taken off from the ranking list. The ratings are still preserved for a set period of time in case the said player becomes active again before being completely deleted.

PS

Looked up the rules. Under "5. Deleted Players."

4 months of inactivity and the player would appear on a separate list.

8 months and the player would be taken off the ranking list.

4 years from last appearance on the ranking list would have the player's ranking points completely deleted.
