FZD beat DO 4:0 or 4:1 during their first encounter in 2014 (or 2013). Then FZD was 15 years old. IF DO lost to that lousy kid, he might just make a record to lose to two kids in two Open events.

That's a little early to hit puberty for a boy, isn't it?

Boys often do hit puberty at 13.

Girls hit puberty at 11-13, and boys usually a year or two later at 12-15.

I remember some girls started to develop curves as early as 10. I knew of a male classmate who was a late bloomer.

FZD was born on January 22, 1997.
His first match vs DO was on July 24, 2013 in the Superleague, and he won 3-2.

So FZD was 16 1/2 then - 3 years older than TH today.

In November 2013, FZD beat DO 4-1 in the German Open final.

Relentless elbow targeting by Mori. She had better stick with it.

As much as I have gotten more used to this screaming, I don't see why ITTF hasn't taken seriously steps to address it.

I bet that Dima is gonna win.

Yet deep down I wish that Harimoto will win.

Troubles receiving Dima's tomahawk serves. Could be a deal-breaker.

Absolutely clueless.

He lacks power which is obvious at the age of 13. I think when he reaches 16 years he will beat Ovtcharov easily.

He is clearly more skillful than Ovtcharov. So it's just a matter of time.
He has trouble returning the super spinny underspin Ovtcharov serve. So he will lose today.

His over the table game is very impressive, that forehand flip near the end there was lightning fast and a thing of beauty

Yeah, didn't he just read that sidespin serve so well?

He improved his return of serve already - could read that tricky spin/no-spin variation by game 3 or 4. With some practice back in Japan, it will not be a problem. And notice his forehand loop is already surprisingly powerful. Power won't be a problem either.

He will set his sights on Tokyo 2020. And the Chinese. Up another level entirely. Can he do it?

I understand that 'choing' bothers some people, but personally it is one of the things I love about table tennis. I certainly wouldn't want to see it regulated or discouraged. In fact, I think more people should be encouraged to participate. People should be able to express their passion when they play the sport they love.
