Even though I said I wouldn't, I made the switch. Has anyone else made that change? Any thoughts?

R42 is much better rubber than Rasant Grip. Throw is higher, so some adjustment is required.

Yeah, I prefer V42 over R42 on my BH side, and V42's lower throw is closer to Rasant Grip, even though R42's overall hardness is closest to Grip's. A hypothetical V45 would be the natural replacement for Grip on paper, so perhaps Aurus Select is the one to consider if R42 doesn't work out for you.

This was a great signature until I realised it was overrated.

I would have thought V47 would be a better match. Again, this is all theoretical but I did play with Grip.

I like putting heavy topspin on the ball...

Possibly. Not used V47 myself, but it's likely to be a bit harder. Grip is somewhere in the middle of the two. I guess you can go harder, softer, or elsewhere.

I've been playing R42 for about 10 days now. I really like it. It didn't really take that much time to adjust to R42 from Grip.
Compared to Grip R42's...
The only down side that I have noticed is that the topsheep may not be as durable. I don't remember hitting the rubber on the table or anything, but near the top of my paddle, there is already about a .5 inch crack in the topsheet. I hope it doesn't get any bigger. Grip was fairly durable. I played it for more than 2 years, probably 5 or 6 sheets worth, never had a crack in the topsheet like that. |

How about the weight? My Rasant Grip (cut) was about 45-46 g which for me is kinda on the heavy side... |

R42 should be at least 2gm lighter.

R42 is a very balanced rubber. Its much better than rasant grip in every aspect. The throw angle is a nice medium high and the spin is amazing and yet the topsheet is not that grippy. Tenergy users should consider this as an alternative.
