I have seen koki nowa using the chop block shot a lot!

but curious to know if it is koki niwa only who invented this or is it ma long( seen him playing the shots)

I doubt Waldner invented the shot, but at least there is the evidence that shows the technique predated Koki Niwa by DECADES!!!

Isn't this a standard shot for hardbat guys....I would think it would go back to the early days of TT. Perhaps BerndtMann could shed some light on it.

Thanks Larry but I think there is a youtube video with Marty Reisman (sp?) and someone from his era 40's (I am guessing at the decade here) or earlier demonstrating how they used to do it. So I am thinking it goes way before the the time you are mentioning in your article.

I wrote, "During the hardbat era, this was quite common, as players often chop-blocked." The hardbat era started in the 1920s, long before Reisman became a top player in the late 1940s.
