During the recent Team Euro 2017 some competitors were spotted using rubbers with an innovative design. Supposedly to better handle the plastic Nittaku ball.

Some inner layer of unknown material is sandwiched between the rubber topsheet and the sponge.

Is it a factory-made product or some handicraft ? What is the practical idea of the novelty , I wonder to know.

??? Isn't this simply a rubber that is hanging over the edge of the blade?

That white strip is probably the inner side of the edge tape.

This picture is a rial thing. Taken from a full-lenght video.
It seems much like a mockery because of the huge rubber overlaps far beyond the blade edge. And the extra interlayer can be seen very clearly.
Again, the sponge insane thikness is some outrage of the laws, indeed.

Дядя Игорь, пора к окулисту - там видно только резину и ТОРЦЕВУЮ ленту, хорош уже нерезидентов бодрить ерундой.
Guys, sorry for text in Russian

The thing that matters is there is too much overhang and they therefor cannot use that bat in that condition

FINALLY! A good post!
That might be the latest prototype. 2 layer sponge. Imagine combining porous + dense sponge into one sheet. Might have an interesting effect.

You're telling me Ovtcharov is a blatant cheater?

If that happen to be the case, then the Chinese pale in comparison. No wonder "China is bots, Europa is artistic."

Tried this.

The biggest challenge is creating harmony in the glue layer between the two sponges.
Without harmony, there is erratic and surprise.

Compared to 10 years ago, ESN has achieved "harmonious dual sponge effect" with their modern rubbers.

They are slow on the touch game and provide good control, they are fast on bigger shots and provide good control.

Honestly, Rasant plays like a speedglued sheet of rubber in terms of it's dynamic range of speed and spin. It only lacks the sound and the distinct "catching the ball" feeling that speedglue provided.
