VladCeller posted the following:
China announced the composition of the team to participate in Germany Open ...
28 participants ...
-------------------------------------
kakapo posted:
No Japanese at this German open. A pity, we could have watched some interesting stuff between China and Japan.
--------------------------------------
The Observer posted:
I for one definitely welcome this change.
(Btw, I am in Observer's camp.)
======================
List of 28 players from China (Jike Zhang and Yu Ziyang are on the list.)
======================
kakapo does not need to worry - there will be lots of Japanese players.
According to VladCellerJapan announced for participation almost all of its female top players ......
Japan will enter this event, their list of players has not appeared yet - but it will.

*** After LGL is gone, China is sending a plane-load of players. (More or less like Japan.) ***

Each association can only enroll 6 players for single events and 4 players for double events. Any additional player will be put on a waiting list.

Last year German Open's winner:

Men's Singles:  Ma Long
Women's Singles:  Wu Yang
=================

For this year, Ma Long did not enter.
But Wu Yang entered, she will defend her title.

*** Hope Harimoto of Japan will enter this year. ***

Great looking entry list so far, full strength teams from the hosting country and other European countries also sending their best players.

Is Samsonov injured at the moment?

List of players from Japan has not showed up - true.
But the list will show up in the near future.

My guess:  Japan will send a plane-load of players to German Open.

Hmmmm....Ding Ning also absent for this tournament.

I thought she would be attending this one since she got pulled out of the Women Championship here in Canada, happening about a week earlier.

I wonder what's the deal.

The display of the current entries is somewhat different from before.
Is that an improvement?  (I am not sure.)

This is the upcoming 2017 German Open info. Go to Current Entries section.
There are a few choices, click on any - do you see any improvement vs previous version?
Do you get more information from this new version than from the old version?
(Lots of effort and money spent by ITTF to bring to us this new version.)

I've expressed my opinion in another thread about the new site.  In a word: awful. They want you to remember each player's player id which you need to do a search for from Players -> Players data.  So if you're looking at the rankings list and you want to know results/stats of a player, you can not do this easily.  If you click on the search icon, you get some general info.  What's worse is that although they want you to reference everything by player ID.... on the ranking page or clicking on a player does NOT provide a player ID.  And BTW, if you go to Players -> Players Data, you cannot search for Mma Ito; you must search for Ito Mima.  A pretty website does me no good if it's cumbersome to use.  Unless we've been overtaken by the Borg, computers should adapt to humans, not the other way around.

Agree with you, and agree with VladCeller.
The new version is not an improvement, it is worse than before.

The info on the "Current Entries" is not displayed in the format that users are interested in.

I wonder what would be the world ranking if China sends more than 20 players (like Japan does every time) to each Seamaster tournament next year.
This can't be a coincidence sending so many players to this German open, this has never been seen before from China. they want to prove something.
 I think they will reapeat it.

IMO, on the women side, we would have 10 Chinese in the top 10
On the men side, probably 7 or 8

After LGL is gone, China has started sending more players to the event they usually participate.
Unlike Japan, China does not participate in many World Tours - they only choose a few.

They could send their 2nd or 3rd tier players to those events that they consider "not important".
Hope China will participate in more ITTF world tours, like Japan does.

China does not want to win every event, that's for sure. But they can send their weaker players to some events that they consider "less important".

Love to see that they will participate in more events.

Thanks. Done.

Nov. 7-9: Qualification matches.
Nov. 10-12:  Main Draw matches.
===================
Magdeburg, Germany is 6 hours ahead US Eastern.

Off topic:  If Ratings Central does not carry 2017 German Open after it is finished,
                then we probably will have lost Ratings Central.
                This is a great site for TT fans.

Now, that, I say is a very reasonable statement.
Just that if and when they do send their 'weaker' ( up and coming ) players to less important tournaments, they may overwhelm other competitors in years to come......which is not desirable.

CNT is sending all they have in their 1st & 2nd tier/up coming prospects of their Women's team to Magdeburg, including qualifiers & U21, 17 in all.
In the era of LGL, they rarely sent more than 4 players at a time. This preserved opacity in their reserve's abilities/style of play to the world, except the very top ones, saving the element of surprise for the 'hidden ones' in their 'first strike'. It's also a precaution against their being prematurely 'studied/analyzed' by foreign eager coaches, knowing to confront them in future tournaments must be expected.

Funny part is, in the melee that will ensure, this time at least, they'll probably be playing against most of the Japanese players, and all 17 will be watched meticulously. So much for NOT accepting foreign players into their 2017 'Super League'.

When/why did CNT started this 'human wave' response ? Already Austrian Op, German Op, and later Swedish Op. Add a few more massive response tournaments like these, and it will be tantamount to allowing the entire JNT Women's team (plus anyone who plays ok) to play in China's Super League'. (This time Japan is sending 20 girls to play & watch.)

Rarely do we get to see regular, competition level play from China's reserves/next generation in the open. I bet there are going to be a lot of cameras trained at all 17 CNT girls, at every match.
I'm eager to watch and find out the common denominator that built them up, their strategies & tactics. Hopefully, China will keep sending all it can, time and again, so the world can chart/track these girls' growth and development, study their metamorphosis, and the tracks they took to improve.
The key to crack the Chinese Wall may well be provided by China after all. Wink

You might be right but....you can watch, observe and analyze them a thousand times...if they are simply better, you won't be able to do anything :))That is true on the men side but even more on the women side where Wang Manyu and Sun Yingsha will be very soon at the top.

Also if China sends 25 players in each big event, that is a guarantee for them to have 4 Chinese women and 4 Chinese guys in the semis.
Even if a Japanese or a European manages to defeat a Chinese, he would lose from another Chinese in the next round.
Japan for instance has sent all they have in stock for years and....99% of the time, they lost when a few Chinese competed so not a single Japanese has the weapon to defeat a top Chinese player yet, either woman or man. I am sure Hirano Miu won't produce again last year performance. Since that event, she has been easily defeated by all Chinese opponents she faced.
