I am planning to start my six year old daughter in table tennis and I wonder if anyone can suggest a blade with an appropriately small handle.

Many brands have blades with smaller handles and blade faces, mostly in the ALL to OFF- range.
I would get a 5-ply, all wood, blade in the ALL+ range and 1.8 controlled rubbers.
Tibhar Samsonov Premium Junior is one. There are several more.

I see you play with a Stiga blade, so she might want to have one, too.
AFAIK, Stiga used to have at least one Junior-size blade, but I no longer see it listed.
You could still get an Allround classic with thin flared handle and sand it down a little.

You'll get divergent advice, up to buying her a carbon blade and sticking Tenergys on it, because it's best if she gets used to fast equipment from the beginning...

This document, is also very good advice for selecting a suitable blade for young and developing players, IMHO.

However, it does not list any very small sized blade.

ILya,

You are welcome to Maria's used (but still good shape) Joola Rossi Jr.

Just let me know if you think it will work and I'll send it your way!

Should have asked you first...

I think I will take you up on that, thanks.

Which rubbers did Maria use when she started?  I was thinking of getting her a couple of Roundells, but I am open to suggestions.

She used Flextra for at least a year, then (if memory serves) went to Vega Europe...

Flextra is a fabulous beginner rubber, but I suspect Roundell would be dandy as well.  If she feels "Daddy Pressure", take her to see Wei now and then and see if it helps - can't imagine that it wouldn't...

While I don't have young kids, I second the Stiga All Around Classic recommendation.

The WRB version with light, thin sponge rubbers should end up being very light.
A version of Hurricane 3
A version of Tenergy
A Stiga blade...

I gave no intention of coaching her myself. There are a couple of coaches in the club who seem to do well with kids, while my presence anywhere near seems to give them hiccups.

Rossi jr is a great blade for a 6 year old. Small handle and slightly smaller blade face to keep the weight down. Many kids in our programs use these. Jayden earned bronze in boys U10 at nationals with this blade.

Joola has 4all and 4you which are entry level rubbers not too different than Flextra. I much prefer Mambo though.

My son has been using some Dawei  ALL+  (forget the name) and 2008XP rubbers in 1.8 for over a year now. This rubber plays similar to Butterfly Sriver / Yasaka Mark V, maybe a bit spinnier (IMHO)

At age 6? The main problem is not the blade composition, it's the handle thickness and head size (larger size, more weight).
