These 2 would not play singles for Japan at
the next world teams championship, first team
would likely be

mizutani
maharu
Niwa
Harimoto

Yuya is 2nd team player and
MORIZONO is 3rd team player.

He doesn't even know what he's talking about.

There are 7 members on the National Team. Oshima is the 4th, after Mizutani, Niwa, and Matsu-Ken.

There are 21 members on the National Team Reserve List. Morizono is the 2nd.

That 9-7 in game 2 was too critical.   The match was over then.

Dima brought his A game.  FZD brought his A+ game.  If you look at the 4-0 score in favor of FZD, you'd think Dima didn't play well.  FZD just played on another level.  Perfect placement and power.

Agreed.  Fan's serve strategy was amazing.  Back to the lab for Dima on that one.

Very different when you get to take the exam twice.  What I think this match showed was how good Timo's match yesterday was.

Impressive prize money for the Grand Finals. Good news for TT. We need more money in the game...allround.

International results would suggest that, but the All-Japan Championships and most of all, seniority, weigh the most to them.

20% tax deduction. It is some robbery on the winner.

The world's only country that offer zero tax deduction is Dubai.   Nice generous people of Dubai"s sheikhs, the land of wealthy peoples.

FZD made a statement with his 4-0 win with 100k on the line and Dima to be ranked #1 in January 2018 !

Don't know how Ma Long will fit in, in this New world ranking system?
He hardly plays much these days - 3 or 4 times a year?

January, 2018's Hungarian Open entry list (so far).

WR #1 and #2 are taken by Dima and FZD.
Ma Long did not enter.
If he did, his name would be at most, World #3, might even be way down in the list.

In the future if he does play, he may be pushed down and into the Qualification Group.
That's OK, Ma Long will just kill everyone in his group and advances to the Main Draw.
===========
*** Looks like ITTF already has the January, 2018 ranking list somewhere.
*** Players in the Hungarian Open already got their 2018 January World Ranking.

It was a good finals match. Fan ZhenDong finally began to handle his new racket the way he was expected. He played well. Dima did his best, but probably quickly realized that he is being outclassed, in spite of the recent amazing "surge of confidence" of his. Basically that much for number one ranking... Fan looks a better athlete, and a better TT player.

Adam Bobrow unfortunately keeps overcooking his commentaries, in all kinds of ways. I know, I know one cannot make everyone happy when commentating any single match... Probably Adam is at his best, and it obviously does not matter what I would prefer.

The venue... darkened where the audience was seated, the odd recent fad, or requirement, but to say the truth it was not as bad as during the last Sweden Open. Still, I enjoy more the normal view of the playing area and the audience.

What will the Grand Finals 2018 look like? Trying to toy with a question like that is harder than ever.

I really thought Dima could win, because of the combination "backhand short topspin serve to his forehand , make him bh flip, and then third-ball kill with the backand". This has worked very well last time.

But I didn't believe that FZD could raise his level so much, and that he possessed all that power.

Ovtcharov played as good as the last time, but FZD this time didn't miss anything, unlike the last time. He seems to have gone back to the old blade.

FZD did what he had to do. He showed who is number 1. Was very important not just to win but 4:0 and he did it.

Dima and FZD have played 5 times.
The first 3 times, FZD won (see link):

The 4th time, German Open, Dima won.
The 5th time, Grand Final, FZD won.

For 5 times, FZD won 4 and Dima won 1.

====================
Against Ma Long:  Dima lost all 17 matches.

Exactly, +100.
Also, it would be good to know if FZD played with his old equipment or finally adjusted well to the new racket.

According to his coach, FZD switched back to his old blade this time. In Germany he was switching to the new blade and lost 3:4 to Dima.

It is also confirmed FZD was using Tenergy for BH this time.

Yea, Timo used his brain and changed the rhythm to his advantage. It worked but he didn't seem to find his groove as well as he would have liked. Do you know why Timo appeared to be limping and moving slow towards the end of the match?

I really wish they'd find a technical commentator to counterbalance his antics. But as you said, it obviously does not matter what we would prefer.
