Looks like ITTF just started accepting entries.
Interesting to see what world top players will be there.

Qatar Open is World Tour Platinum, player can get more Ranking Points.

China submitted its list of players for the Qatar Open.

8 men, but Ma Long is not on the list.
16 women:  Ding Ning and Liu Shiwen will play. (The limit is 6 players, ITTF started enforcing that this year.)
===========================

China also submitted its list of players for the German Open.
8 men, Ma Long will play this one.
12 women, no Ding Ning no Liu Shiwen.

why would Ma Long not play the qatar open? there's bit money there compared to the average pro tour event.

Both Ding Ning and Liu Shiwen played 5 events.

Both of them are in Qatar Open, but not in German Open.
After Qatar open, they will have played 6, two more to go to make it 8.

After this Qatar event, we will know if ITTF will continue to enforce the 6-players rule after it started doing it in Hungarian Open in January, 2018.

Too many problems with this enforcement:  Young promising players from TT power-houses will have a hard time to rise, because they don't get to play - more established senior players take up all the allowable slots.

ITTF should review this rule, and get rid of it.  Has this rule been in place for 20 or 30 years?
Time to review it, taking into consideration of all "Pros" and "Cons" - if it is not good for TT, then get rid of it.

Total entries so far is 101.
TT powerhouses, HKG, KOR and JPN have not entered yet.

JPN used to send lots of players.

(2017) Last year’s Qatar Open:

Japan had 14 female players who played.
http://www.ratingscentral.com/EventSummary.php?EventID=24152&SortBy=Country

Japan had 13 male players who played.
http://www.ratingscentral.com/EventSummary.php?EventID=24151&SortBy=Country

=========================

Let's see how many players they (Japan) will send and how many players will get to play, in this year's Qatar Open.

(2018 Hungarian Open, ITTF enforced the 6 players max rule. They did not enforce that earlier.)

The 6 approved are the 6 who registered first....so China chose to take the risk leaving aside Chen Xingtong.....

Interesting to see if those on the Waiting List (WL) get to play.
Will ITTF enforce the 6 max rule, or let all of them play?

The announced limit for Qatar Open is 170 participants .....

to kakapo
...
so China chose to take the risk leaving aside Chen Xingtong.....

Xingtong is actually part of the Chinese team for the Worlk Team Cup in February in London ... Unlike Yingsha ....

I'm sorry ... What does "plane-load" ?
The composition of the Japanese team was approved on January 11 and so far there have been no changes ...

So, Japan plans to send 9 male players and 8 female players.

It is not official until they enter, and the names appear in the ITTF website.
(I don't see their names yet on ITTF.)

Sato & Hashimoto (U21)
If the 170 quota is not filled, the remaining spots will be fed from the WL, but ONLY ACCORDING TO WR (new 2018) on the waiting list.

FOR LONDON, this is the JNT contingent list. Hirano, Ito, Hayata, all their personal coaches are accompanying them, as is Harimoto's father/coach, even Ito's mother Minari is going, but I don't see Ishikawa's coach, unless she depends on training partner郭帅. And only 3 will be playing.
btw, Hirano's coach Zhang resigned immediately after World Cup and returned to China.
Nakazawa is now her coach again.
(very sorry, may be hijacking this thread)

But why only three will play?
This is the team championship of the world, is not it?
The third game in the match - are the pairs playing?
Positions of the first-second-third player in the team are fixed immediately for all games?

Team World Cup uses Olympic match TBC format, 3 players, best of 5 matches (SSDSS).
