The only time I had any splintering with a Defplay is if there are any dings around the edges where the Basswood central ply becomes exposed and can come away a bit when pealing rubbers off,the outer Anigre ply is really smooth and not prone to splintering but it won't hurt to have a thin coat of sealant ,it's more important to protect the edges of this blade Imo

Hello,

I managed glue the OX rubber, by myself.. Here's how it went...

  1. Applied a thin'ish layer of Donic Vario Clean to the Pogo LP, and set it aside to dry until the white glue seemed to disappear.
  2. Applied a thin layer of Donic Vario Clean to the Defplay Senso V3 Blade, and set it aside to dry until the white glue seemed to disappear.
  3. I made a real DUMB mistake of placing my finger on the glued blade, to check if it had dried, when I took my finger off, it peeled off the glue...Basically ruining everything...
  4. Peeled off the glue from the blade, by rubbing my thumb on the blade.
  5. Once I was done peeling off the Glue, I saw just a few tiny fibres had partially come off.
  6. Kicked myself for not sealing the blade...
  7. Ran down (with a bit of a limp) to the local hardware store (took the blade with me).. Showed my handy-work to the store keeper. He suggested I use 3M's 220 sandpaper... Bought some.
  8. When I got back home, the glue on the rubber seemed to have set.
  9. Peeled the glue off the rubber... Reapplied..
  10. Put the rubber aside, and sanded the blade lightly... It turned as good as new..
  11. Reapplied glue, and this time used a hair-dryer to dry it quicker...
  12. At which point got a mouthful from the missus....didn't realize that the my LIL miss was having her afternoon nap, in the other room.
  13. Once the glue on the rubber and blade dried, I placed the rubber, glue-side down on a thin, textured plastic folder, with the label part out of the folder..
  14. I aligned the label to the handle, and pressed it down..
  15. Shifted the folder upwards, and stuck the next part of the rubber
  16. Repeated step 15, until all the rubber seemed stuck to the blade.
  17. Used a rolling-pin (Almost every Indian house-hold has one)
  18. Checked for any bubbles...Didn't notice any.
  19. Placed a stack of books for around 2-3 hours...
  20. Cut the rubber.
  21. Clicked photos...
So, it was not all smooth sailing, but the end-result, I think was pretty successful.

Thanks everyone for the pointers...

I'll try posting some pics, later (One I figure-out how to)...
