Hi, Looking for recommendations for a FH rubber to replace Tenergy 05. Training 3 hours a day / 6 days a week, playing tournaments, league and international competition but have to pay for own rubbers even if discounted. Topsheet on 05 is struggling to get past 6 to 7 weeks before needing replacement (significant loss of grip from new based on heavy topspin / counter topspin use). The player in question used to get 3 months out of a sheet but now that his FH is much stronger it's getting expensive and is under 2 months use. Anything spring to mind that will last longer at this amount of training and play ? Bluestorm Z1 is taking punishment well on the BH but that is not such a heavy workload. I am aware that a club player can get months and months out of Tenergy 05 but this is a high use situation. Thanks

This question is for high level training player, which I doubt exist on this forum, I am sorry, if I am wrong on this. However, I think your best bet is to check with Coaches, or elite players in your area to see what they do. I see a few elite players play with beatup rubbers for multi balls, or other training concentrate on footwork, and cardio. They use better setup for other trainings.

3 hours a day/6 days a week is quite a fair amount. You'll be hard pressed to find a rubber that hasn't deteriorated significantly after 6-7 weeks of that. If he is high level and playing frequently, I'm sure he could switch to any more affordable modern offensive rubber and be fine, choice doesn't really matter.

Find a sponsor, perhaps? Contact Butterfly for your region, maybe?

There's no real answer on this apart from as suggested by Zeio to try to find a good sponsor if you can. I'm guessing you are ranked high in the UK and shouldn't find it hard to get a contact of a kind. Which British league Division are you playing in btw? and what area do you train in? Great news that you are playing abroad it's fun when you are younger but takes it toll when you get a little older! :) Do you have to have T05 on the forehand and BZ1 on the backhand as that might cause a few issues with a sponsor. Hope it goes well and great news. |

Look for a sponsor for T05, if not then buying any tensor from a dealer for 30 euros a pop might be better value for money than Tenergy even if it dies quicker, as it is half the price. Good luck!

Yeah AK47 RED will do you good considering it's a very cheap rubber that's fairly durable. Ultra grippy thin topsheet.
It's not Tenergy05 but if you're looking for a replacement then it's probably a price issue, and you really can't beat AK47 RED (or yellow maybe) as a replacement given its, like, $12 cost |

Switch to Hurricane 3 on a 10-20% faster blade. In terms of price-performance-durability ratio, it is second to none.

Yeah I discounted that because it doesn't make sense to me, even if it's true, that someone who wants to amount to something on an international level will choose rubbers based on price/value considerations. And if it is price-value considerations, which is the only logical premise behind asking for durability and longevity, then as I said, AK47red is hard to beat, given you don't need to adjust much in technique. But that said if the ONLY consideration was longevity and durability, obviously nothing beats a hard chinese rubber with a robust (not thin and flimsy) topsheet. Like my Battle 2 :) Actually hell, I officially recommend Battle2 as an excellent FH rubber. Try it, you won't be disappointed and it will last forever Edited by Lightzy - 05/24/2018 at 8:12pm |

729 LEADS THE RACE.
Bloom Rubber series of 2018, just developed by 729 manufactory. It seems to be some emulation of Tenergy, newly developed porous sponge, semi-tacky topsheet. http://www.princett.com/EN/USD/product/Friendship-729-Bloom-Table-tennis-Pimples-in-Rubber-317.html The Control species is the very choice of mine, I do hate the plump sponge over 2.0mm due to reduced controlability. Be happy. |

Hah I like that their not stupidly abstruse with their naming scheme like other companies.
I didn't even consider trying out like, bluefire M1, F2 P1 or whatever. Cuz why should I go through the trouble of figuring out what they mean, screw them :) |

Hey, don't waste your time to explore all the clones and 2nd tier rubbers. you will end up waste money and time.
I assume you are 2200+ level, so don't collect suggestions here. most people here, including me, are less than 2000. Still I suggest to stick with tenergy. you can get a coaching job to collect some money. at least for most coaches in US, two hours of training is sufficient to buy a sheet of tenergy. good luck

Ask yourself if it is really worn down yet. Most of the time people switch too early. But if your actually training that much and not just playing around, then you'll quickly reach a point where you'll get rubbers from your club.

Thanks for some of the practical suggestions.
Player concerned is a younger player in the class 9/10 standing disability competition. No big full time club in the local area so training is spread across several clubs including local and up to 90 mins drive away; plus regular training camps around UK.The various coaches communicate to ensure consistency. Travel costs (petrol and flights), hotel costs, tournament fees, coaching fees, equipment costs incl rubber all add up when a family is trying to support a younger player. There isn't a lot of financial support about. Am trying to get this player to move to a one manufacturer setup to pursue sponsorship further but they have very clear likes and dislikes so not as easy as it seems; especially when there is another tournament around the corner. We have a gap over the Summer to do some equipment testing for about 3 weeks. For those interested in the level of a top young class 9 player have a look at Laurens Devos from Belgium. Thanks |
