I think this rally definitely deserves its own thread! Whoof!

(Point starting at 12:20. 6.00 is also amazing. And if you have 16 minutes the whole match is worth watching.)

The Chinese have perfected the art of hiding the ball on the serve with their body. Not a single serve of Lingkun's is visible at contact.
For sure they practice this.

THE END JUSTIFIES THE MEANS ... CNT general Motto, taken as general guidance. Outspoken display of the poor morality of the Ping Pang Athletes.

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/the_end_justifies_the_means

"exitus ācta probat" Latinisma
“the result justifies the deeds”.

Who said that all is fair in love
and war?
-- The earliest known origin
of the sentiment "all is fair
in love in war" is found in
poet John Lyly's novel
"Euphues: The Anatomy of
Wit," published in 1579.
The novel recounts the
romantic adventures of a
wealthy and attractive
young man, and includes
the quote "the rules of fair
play do not apply in love, in warfare and tabletennis .."

It's hard to respect anyone who hides their serve.

Ridiculous shotmaking from Boll at 12:20.... I mean...you can't do better than two successful hand switches (the right arm FH was surprisingly powerful!), and follow it up with another incredibly away from the table BH sidespin loop, and finish the point with a FH fade chop. It's gonna appear in so many highlight reels!

Man, Timo is a God. Very nice points at 6:00 and 12:20. Thanks for posting it.

Not all Chinese players hide their serves. At least ML and ZJK serve as legally as possible.

Ma Long hides it with his head. ZJK when he does the reverse pendulum.

I agree with Danseemiller. Many Chinese players hide the serve with their head or shoulder.  Timo would have won if LJK served legally in this match.

Yes, Ma Long hides the ball with his head.

And Timo delays the removal of his free arm nowadays too...

No need to be such fanboys, professionals have to get every edge they can, the responsibility for calling serves should remain with the referees.

It is really hard to figure out how players like Samsonov, Boll, and Ovtcharov serve perfectly legal and 70 percent of the other top players do as well yet they don't make an issue out of it. Quite often the illegal server wins the match directly because of this. It doesn't seem fair. It definitely isn't fair.
As far as leaving it up to the umpires- well they are just scorekeepers. An umpires sole duty is to see that the match is played fairly under the rules and their ONE job they don't do.

If you can't beat them join em    no use whining about it... When you're a professional you need every edge you can!
