I noticed an interesting entry in Women's Singles.  A while ago, I watched on Youtube Guo Yan (not the retired one, but a new generation player) beat Chen Xingtong.  It was best of 5, but I thought to myself how come we never see her play in an ITTF tournament.  Apparently, she's playing in this tournament Smile

Yes, I heard this new young player, Guo Yan too. She is good.
China sent 9 players (3 men and 6 women), I heard only these 3 players before: Guo Yan, Fan Siqi and Sun Chen. I have never heard the remaining 6 players, 3 men and 3 women.

Who is #2 player of Nigeria?  I have an impression that he is very good, but not as famous as Quadri Aruna.

*** Oops, just found out that Toriola Segun plays in this event, I thought he retired.
Back in the days, Toriola Segun was a very exciting player to watch.

Wang Shu ^^ (a female player, CHN), that "^^" means the player is from another country.
Strang, indeed.

DANCING QUEEN.   MY SWEET PASSION.

The world's dancer No.1, indeed. Far better than Mima Ito, Far superior to Ding Ning.

Sun Chen advanced to the Main Draw.
Her first match, against a seeded player, will be on table 1.
(Means, there will be a video of the match.)

As a penhold player, her FH rubber is short pips, BH is inverted rubber.
She is pretty good at RPB.  Let's see how she does.
I think she will be able to knock out the seeded player.
(Tomorrow, Friday, we will know.)

Wow, the lighting and camera positioning (no glare) are like night and day vs. Australian Open (a Platinum event).  Kudos to the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation for organizing the tournament.

I am finding the Nigerian Open pretty much unwatchable. Who let vuvuzelas in a table tennis tournament?

I agree with this observation.

Sun Chen's match was long over, but have not seen the video yet.
ITTF is kind slow.

Entertaining match just concluded. The Nigerian player appeared to tighten up after ahead 5-2 in the 7th.

Ok, I have watched several matches, it was mostly the Aruna match that had hideous vuvuzela noise.

On men's side, China sent 3 players. (Men's Singles.)
All 3 players lost in the first round of the Main Draw.

Btw, I have never heard the names of those 3 players.
Don't think they are even the 3rd-tier players in China.

WS's top seed may be in trouble.
She is down 2 games now.  0-2.

Update:  now 1-2.
Update 2:  now 3-3.

Never heard of this CHN player before:  Wei Wensheng.
