My practice partners want to drill against pips. We plan to chip in on a practice blade with short pips on one side and long pips on the other. Which standard/typical blade and rubbers do you recommend?

The least expensive rubbers would be

Friendship(729's) - 755 LP with thin sponge
Friendship(729's) - 802-40 Short pip

If you want little funkier SP then try 729's 802 or 802-1.

Any fairly stiff all wood blade blade should be fine.

You might check with Colestt.com to see what he has in a stiff all wood blade. The Matrix might work. It used to be Dawei, but now I think its under the Air brand.

Stiff wood blades are good but I also think soft surface stiff carbon blades are worth a shot. T-11+, 729 L-1, T-7/8 etc. great for hitting and blocking.

For cheap blocking specialized OX LP I suggest Bomb Talent or CK531A. 755 does everything well but its geared more towards ease of use especially when hitting, especially with sponge. Talent and CK give more reversal than 755 but are slightly trickier to use. I thought Talent felt geared more towards tricky blocking while I found CK better for hitting.

If you want to drill against a truly dead ball, YinHe Pluto is my pick. Easy to use, fun to hit with and gives weird dead balls back. Also dirt cheap on Eacheng. Just don't expect to serve or hit with as much spin as SP like 802-40

Globe 889 and 651 are nastier than 802 if you can spin against them you rock

If you get OX be aware that glueing it on takes a little different technique. Easy to ruin a sheet especially if you use rubber cement.

Mark - Ask me how I know it is easy ruin a sheet.

So, you are saying long pips can be 'cooked'?

Be right back...

P.S. Glue sheets all the way for me, as far as OX is concerned.
