Westchester January Open singles final.

An EJ to a table tennis player is an equipment junkie. An ej to a mathematician is a standard basis vector.

Kaden Xu is on fire lately - he won December Open as well, defeating He Zhi Wen.

Never seen Eugene miss so many blocks and misread so many serves.

People I know who have received Kaden"s serve say it is above average for his level.  Even watching He Zhi Wen return it, you saw a lot of errors.

Kaden has a really good serve and a very sneaky opener: heavy and really well placed.  That can do some damage.

It seem that it was the table or the lighting

For me tables are glossy and give lots of glare. But with Eugene it was sometimes obvious that right knee injury was hindering in many ways.

I watched the video earlier. I wondered if Eugene just expected to win, that it would just come to him; he also does look like he has lost some conditioning/gained some weight.  But I have not watched him in recent matches.

Agree with the 2 posts immediately above this one, by osmar92 and vanjr.

Eugene played several ITTF world tours (not too many, but some), so he felt he got the experience.
And, he won US Open a couple of times before.

He thought that he did not need to prepare for this tournament to win.
Now, rude awakening.

No, tables are top quality tournament tables and lighting is fine. EW played here and won many times over. Could it be complacency?

Just checked Eugene Wang's playing history:

Prior to this one, Eugene played Westchester Open 5 times, he won all 5.

Now, this is his 6th appearance, and it bombed.
