Hinoki, like all wood species, isn't all equal. Kiso Hinoki, which comes from the Kiso region in Japan, is the most sought after due to its softness and light weight. However, this wood is protected and very hard to get. The Hinoki I'm using here comes from the Kyushu region, it is slightly denser and harder than Hinoki from Kiso, but you still get the same kind of elasticity this wood is known for.

Available FS.

- Hinoki / ALC / Kiri / ALC / Hinoki

- 6.5mm
- 158x152mm
- ST (102x27.5x23mm)

Sometimes the customer knows exactly what he wants, other times I get asked for suggestions. I won't claim they are all a success, but the vast majority is, and it makes me really happy when that happens.

Hypnotic,  can you entertain my silly question... There are a few balsa carbon hinoki blades out there.  I searched for ages and could not find one balsa hinoki without carbon.  Why is that?  Too soft/slow???

cheers

Balsa is really soft and light, on its own it doesn't provide enough mass, stiffness or hardness to drive the ball. You need something in the composition to play this role, otherwise you will just end up with a thick and slow blade that's not really good at anything specifically, and not very comfortable to play with.

Here's what the owner said:

"This is blade eight and nine that I’ve bought from Sérgio. Both of the blades play very, very nicely but the 3+2 is my favourite and the blade I play regurarly.

The 3+2 blade has a soft Hinoki feeling but packs a punch! I can really not get around why there isn’t more Hinoki/ALC blades out there. I couldn’t be happier with this blade.

Spectra is indeed an interesting material. The composition is not as soft (which is the main reason I prefer the other blade) but produces a wonderfully cracking sound at high impact shots.
As before I can highly recommend buying from Sérgio. He’s the man!"

If Timo Boll was a girl 🙂

This one isn't particularly soft, I would say it sits in the middle of the hardness spectrum for this kind of composition. However, it's fast, crisp and very stable.

I'm calling this a defensive blade, but it's not a slow blade by any means. It's a variation on the Nexy JSH blade, but with Koto top ply instead of Ayous. This makes it a more demanding blade to play in the defensive department, but you get more offensive capabilities. It will also suit an offensive player who enjoys the stability of 7 ply blades, but also larger head sizes.

Available FS.

- Koto / Ayous / Ayous / Ayous / Ayous / Ayous / Koto
- 89.6g
- 6.35mm
- 162x158mm

A 7ply based on a Gauzy SL, and its 5 ply equivalent. The handles have a big anatomic shape with rounded thumb rests.

This time I'm using the owner's photos, along with a little feedback from him

"Apparently it looks so colorful and innocent, but it's quite powerful with aggressive arcs"

Another one based on a Zetro Quad but with a few changes, Cypress instead of Hinoki and Spectra instead of Zylon. Cypress is the best Hinoki substitute I have, it's a little heavier but shares the same elasticity and softness. Spectra also shares some traits with zylon, they are both very tough, soft and light fibers, so the overall feeling of the blade is soft and elastic with a sharp feedback but no excess vibration. The handle is my favorite ST shape, slightly thicker and rounder than usual.

Available FS.

- Cypress / Spectra / Ayous / soft-carbon / Kiri / soft-carbon / Ayous / Spectra / Cypress
- 89.7g
- 6.7mm
- 157x150mm

One of the weirdest blades I ever made. The wood plies are all made from Kiri, which is pretty uncommon, and the composite layer is Diolen, providing good dampening. This all adds up to what might be the slowest outer fiber ever. It's so weird, you get the same sweetspot and stability you'd expect from a blade with this structure, but the ball just doesn't go! I think this will be very good to some of the unorthodox players out there. Adding to that, there's the Vis shaped flared handle made from cork, which is a first to me too.

Available FS.

- Kiri / Diolen / Kiri / Kiri / Kiri / Diolen / Kiri
- 67.8g
- 5.85mm
- 157x150mm
- FL (101x25-23mm)
