Those Limba outer plies are so gorgeous, do you finish them with a light varnish? thanks for sharing.

This is actually dark Limba, but i select the pieces without streaks for the outer layers and reserve the others for the medial plies. Yes, i lightly seal most of my blades with an acrylic lacquer.

3 custom blades and 3 of my favorite compositions so far:

My most popular composition, this one goes to a club mate who wanted a second one. A solid All+ blade with great feeling and control.

Limba/Limba/Basalt Fibre/Kiri x3/Basalt Fibre/Limba/Limba - 80.7g - 5.75mm - 1140Hz

This is one has the same composition as my personal blade. The feeling i get with this blade is like nothing i ever tried before. Faster than the previous blade but the spin... so much spin!

Limba/Limba/ALC/WRC/ALC/Limba/Limba - 87.1g - 5.85mm - 1160Hz

This one is faster than the other two but not crazy fast, still very controllable. Great for over-the-table play.

Maple/Beech/GF/Balsa/GF/Beech/Maple - 72.1g - 6.4mm - 1335 Hz

Thank you doraemon!

WRC is western red cedar. Probably my favorite core wood.

What does the each frequency range indicate roughly? Is it to do with dwell, control, speed etc.

I know it has been discussed on this forum, but I can't be bothered to search plus I prefer to hear it from you.
Blade:
Darker Speed90
Rubber Fh and Bh DHS Hurricane 3, 39/38deg

The frequency range is related to stiffness and stiffness is related to speed. Between two similar blades, the one with the higher frequency will be faster, however that may not be the case with different blades.

I prefer to use it as a measure of softness. I like blades in the 1150-1300 Hz, that's the Korbel, Acoustic, Virtuoso range.

I've made another blade for member Magic_M. This one is my favorite composition so far, but with a straight handle. I'm really jealous of this one, i wish i could keep it Smile

Limba/Limba/ALC/WRC/ALC/Limba/Limba - 88.7g - 5.75mm - 1170Hz

Beautiful blades!

Is there a reliable source for the ALC fabric,
or could you maybe sell enough for a couple of blades?

Well, I'm from Portugal and I get my ALC from Spain. I'm sure there are a lot of better options for you locally.

I was only able to find one European weaver of Carbon-Vectran fabric ...G-Angeloni,
and one in Taiwan.

Do you happen to have a website for your Spanish supplier?

Just about any weaver can weave you any fabric given a certain large minimum quantity.

Problem is Carbon-Vectran Fabric is really only useful in a few  applications,so there is little incentive for retailers to carry it.

Well, when i say ALC i mean Aramid, which i suppose it's what every builder means. As you say, Vectran is very hard to find but Aramid is much more common. I think that for table tennis applications the difference is negligible, you have other variables that are much more important such as weave type, density, etc...

2 custom blades for a friend of mine

The first one is "Apolónia" inspired, but he wanted something a little faster and harder. He also wanted the Portuguese flag in the handle.

Limba/Anigre/ALC/Ayous/ALC/Anigre/Limba - 93.0g - 5.95mm - 1370Hz

The second blade is "Ovtcharov TC" inspired but he wanted something less reactive and fast. He also wanted the Azores flag in the handle.

Anigre/ALC/Limba/Kiri/Limba/ALC/Anigre - 86.0g - 5.60mm - 1370Hz

Obrigado Assam! Por acaso ainda n£o trabalhei com ZLC mas só porque n£o consegui arranjar. De resto tenho ALC, Carbono, Fibra de Vidro, Fibra de Basalto e Kevlar. Ou seja, praticamente todas que andam por aí.

Ayous and purple heart handle.

Koto/Carbon/Limba/Kiri/Limba/Carbon/Koto - 83.0g - 5.75mm - 1320Hz

How much do you think it would weight?

limba - spruce - ayous or kiri - spruce - limba
FL,
5.6 - 5.8mm
157x150mm

What are handle options in terms of wood selection?
729 Green Goblin 5, FH: 729 Battle II National H39, BH: Palio HK1997 Gold.
DHS Long 5, FH: 729 Battle II Gold H40, BH: Nittaku C1

Hi, fmarek

my estimation just for the blade without handles is:

Limba/Spruce/Kiri/Spruce/Limba ~ 54g
Limba/Spruce/Ayous/Spruce/Limba ~ 60g

A single handle cup can range from 8g to 17g depending on the king of wood used and if it's hollowed or not. Just for reference, the handle cups on the blade above weight 17g.

I have in stock several woods for handles, such as Ayous, Basswood, Spuce, WRC, Agba, Mahogany, Beech, Teak, Purple Heart, Wenge and a few others that I can't identify. Other woods are available on order.

Hm ... 60 + 17 is pretty light blade I would say. I thought blades of that weight usually have balsa cores. Something does not add up here.
