Something like that. It's a paint that gives that effect.

Thanks!
I haven't had the chance to try neither of the blades I made with Innegra S yet, however I feel this is more of a supporting fiber. What I mean is that it doesn't take over the feeling of the whole blade like ALC or Carbon, it's a little more tamed. The sound is also very different.

This one of two blades I made for a forum member. It's inspired in the Timo Boll Spark, hence the very cool orange and grey handle. Composition : Black Lima / Innegra-Carbon / Ako / Ayous / Ako / Innegra-Carbon / Black Limba Weight: 83.0g Thickness: 5.3mm Freq. : 1140 Hz |

More quarantine experiments. I have to admit there was an inspiration in a certain recent Butterfly blade I love the look of the Revoldia, so I wanted to make something similar without looking like a flat out copy. Composition wise it's also similar, except for the CNF layer, however I experimented with something I hope will give similar results. Composition : Koto / Magic fairy dust / Ayous / Kiri / Ayous / Magic fairy dust / Koto Weight: 88.2g Thickness: 5.8mm Freq. : 1270 Hz Balance: 2.9cm (Low) |

This was one of the blades I had the most fun building lately. Mostly because the client was very clinical during the whole process, which is a good thing, this is what "custom" means. So after a few back and forth emails we set on a composition similar to the W968, based on his playing style. But he also had a clear idea of what he wanted for the final weight, balance and frequency of the blade so it was an extra challenge to achieve that objective. The handle was inspired in the Harimoto blade and was projected to help with lowering the centre of gravity. Composition : Black Limba / Ayous / Aramid-Carbon / Ayous / Aramid-Carbon / Ayous / Black Limba Weight: 88.5g Thickness: 5.95mm Freq. : 1360 Hz Balance: 2.2cm (Very Low) |

More quarantine experiments. This might be the world's first variable stiffness blade. This blade was designed with a push-blocking game in mind, the BH side has more flex than the FH to create more energy dissipation. I'm not a push-blocker, so I will be looking for testers for this blade! Composition: Padauk / Cork / Kiri / Balsa / Limba / Carbon / Limba Weight: 76.3 g Thickness: 7.7 mm Head-size: 158x152 mm Freq: 1140/1230 Hz Balance: 2.5 mm (Low) |

More quarantine experiments. This is my second bamboo core blade, only 5mm thick so it's very flexible (as the frequency reading suggests). Very high throw blade, I thought it would be a lot slower than it really is. Composition: Limba / Koto / Bamboo / Koto / Limba Weight: 85.8g Thickness: 5mm Freq.: 925 Hz Balance: 3.3cm (medium) |

Very interesting blade this one. It was born as an experiment and the result was good, it now belongs to a very good player. Composition: Black Walnut / Ayous / A-C / Kiri / A-C / Ayous / Black Walnut Thickness: 5.95 mm Weight: 88.4 g Freq.: 1442 Hz Balance: 2.0 cm (Very Low) |

Another experiment I've made during quarantine. I've always liked the Persson Powerplay and that blade uses a layer of foil underneath the top ply. So I also used foil but with a different composition. The Queen seems to like it! Composition: Framiré / Foil / Framiré / Kiri / Framiré / Foil / Framiré Weight: 89.8g Thickness: 5.85mm Freq.: 1230 Hz Balance 2.9cm (Low/Med) |

Trying to push the limits of a 5 ply blade. This is a fast, stiff, but relatively soft blade that retains a good feedback. The handle was just to see if I could do it. I can, but I did mess up that yellow stripe. It will go better next time.
Composition: 5 ply Spruce Thickness: 7.0 mm Weight: 96.6 g Freq.: 1570 Hz Balance: 3.1 cm (Med) |

A couple of blades I made for a forum member. Based on an OTC but in a asymmetric construction with an harder Ovangkol top ply for pips out rubber. Very similar weight between these, not even a full gram difference. Composition: Koto / A-C / Ako / Kiri / Ako / Super A-C / Ovangkol Weight: 86.1g Thickness: ~5.5mm Head size: 157x150mm Handle: ST (oval) Freq.: 1507/1528 Hz Balance: 2.8mm (Low) |

Hi,
Back in the days, Borko Dragojlovic was ahead using hide glue and one of his favorite composition that I really enjoyed was a balsa core, inner black walnut and maple outer plies, the quintessential 5-ply flexy blade to loop, it was ALL/ALL+ and in the low 80 grams. Did you ever read about him? I had a few of his blades. Forum member emihet is a good friend of his in San Diego and I bet he still have some of his work. Here are a few links of what Borko used to do: Those were mine at some point, all done with hide glue: I hope you are interested and that I am not polluting your thread (I will edit out all of it at your request), I just wanted to bring your attention to his work in case you overlooked him, which I highly doubt, I feel like you 2 are playing in the same league up there. Your composition above is an all time favorite and I am in awe at knowing somebody carries the noble flag of hand made blades with hide glue. I hope you are comfortable with it and that it will become a signature in your personal trade. Hail to you sir! |

I think I've seen his work in the past but I wasn't aware they were custom made blades. I thank you for bringing that to my attention, don't worry about polluting the thread, all knowledge is welcome.
I think there are many other blade builders using hide glue, I'm certainly not the only one. And to be honest, it's not my favorite glue, I much prefer PU glue. I still use it from time to time but to me the disadvantages don't compensate for the advantages. I still have to make a more scientific approach to compare the differences in feeling but, out of the similar blades I've built with both glues, I preferred the PU ones. Hide glue is heavier, so it's only suitable for certain compositions, and it's harder to use. I get a much stronger bond using half the amount of glue with PU. Forget about using it consistently in lower temperatures. Not to mention it's sensitivity to moisture...

The classic Black Limba / Limba / Ayous / Limba / Black Limba blade was actually build for me so I can provide some background. I currently play with a Stiga 2000 all-round blade from 1976 and I wanted to have a replica or backup blade. My blade weighs 90g, has an anatomic handle (that's what the 2000 stands for), weight is centered on the handle and it plays like Off-. All the sizes and thicknesses were tried to be duplicated except that I wanted the handle to be straight rather than anatomic as I like that a bit better and I have also tried some twiddling and a straight handle is better for that. I also wanted to use the old school hide glue as that is likely what an old Stiga blade would have used. The blade looks fantastic and craftmanship is top notch! Unfortunately, due to the bad COVID situation in Arizona I can't test the blade right now and it might actually be a while until I will be able to.

After testing the Innegra outer blade I made, member Magic_M was so pleased with the result that he commissioned two blades with the same composition! Composition: Framiré / Innegra-Carbon / Framiré / Kiri / Framiré / Innegra-Carbon / Framiré Weight: 88.0g and 88.1g Thickness: ~5.7mm Freq.: 1290 Hz Balance: 2.4 cm (Low) |

And when I received theses beauties and continued the test, I immediately ordered number 3 and 4 with the same composition and measures, only with a little different handle-design. |
