This one of two blades commissioned by a forum member. I haven't made a penhold blade in a while so it was nice to build this one, especially with such a unique design .

Composition: Koto / Ako / Aramid-Carbon / Ayous / Aramid-Carbon / Ako / Koto
Weight: 93.3g
Thickness: ~5.5mm
Freq.: 1270 Hz

This was the second blade commissioned, a variation on my Innegra outer composition with Ash as the top ply. The pattern on the handle is actually a painting made by his father, so it's a really nice hommage.

Composition: Ash / Innegra-Carbon / Limba / Kiri / Limba / Innegra-Carbon / Ash
Weight: 83.6g
Thickness: ~5.75mm
Freq.: 1350 Hz

Composition: Limba / Ayous / Zylon-Carbon / Ayous / Zylon-Carbon /Ayous / Limba
Weight: 85.5g
Thickness: ~5.75mm
Freq.: 1380 Hz

Congratulations on moving to Seattle to design blades here and so close to the place at which I have lunch, that's the cherry on the cake!

Sometimes mistakes happen, it's inevitable, it's what you do to fix those mistakes that matters. This was supposed to be a blade for a customer, but I accidentally glued the plies the wrong way, so the medial ply was facing out on one of the sides. I had to start another blade for the customer, but instead of throwing this one in the bin I decided to add an extra layer in that side as this is a relatively light composition and the weight would still be reasonable. The result wasn't all that bad, in the end this is a 8 ply inner/outer composition and very playable. The feeling is similar to the Innegra-Carbon blades I've been making but with a little extra speed due to the added thickness, making this a solid Off blade.

Composition: Tola / Framiré / Innegra-Carbon / Framiré / Kiri / Framiré / Innegra-Carbon / Framiré
Weight: 91g
Thickness: ~6.35m
Freq.: 1400 Hz
Balance: 2.7 cm (low)

Commissioned inner style blade. Simple but effective.

Composition: Limba / Ayous / A-C / Ayous / A-C / Ayous / Limba
Weight: 90.3g
Thickness: ~5.75mm

A little experiment I did using two bouncy woods, Hinoki and Fineline. Don't let the relatively low frequency fool you, this thing is soft but fast!

Composition: Hinoki / Fineline / I-C / Ayous / I-C / Fineline / Hinoki
Weight: 95.8g
Thickness: ~6.0mm
Freq.: 1290 Hz
Balance: 2.9cm (Low)

Got commissioned a combination blade for an attacking chopper. After a few back and forth emails we came up with an interesting composition. The result seems to be good, owner is really happy with it!

Composition: Fineline / Sucupira / European Spruce / Kiri / Ayous
Weight: 91.7g
Thickness: ~6.2mm
Freq.: ~1180 Hz
Balance: 3.1cm (Medium)

A fine example of how a good balance can make a heavy blade feel lighter than what really is. Owner was very aware of the importance of a good balance so he intentionally asked for a heavy handle, despite the increase in the total weight. The result is a 100g plus blade that feels much lighter in the hand.

Composition: Ovangkol / Ayous / ZLC / Ayous / ZLC / Ayous / Ovangkol
Weight: 105.3g
Thickness: ~5.75mm
Freq.: 1360 Hz
Balance: 2.2cm (very low)

Combination blade for an attacking chopper. Probably the most difference between sides I could get on a blade with the BH side close to ALL- and OFF- for the FH side.

Weight: 89.7g
Thickness: 6.4mm
Freq.: 1184/1140 Hz
Balance: 2.6cm (very low)

This is probably my most requested handle design, but there is a catch with this one. Unlike the majority of my other designs, in order to get the faded look, I dye the wood. This means that it needs a protective layer, otherwise the dye will rub off over time, so I seal the handle. I have tried several different products for this and found that shellac gives the best results, however it still creates a barrier for sweat absorption so the handle can become slippery. Some people have no problem this, but it can be a problem if you sweat a lot, so I always advise customers not to get this type of handle if that is the case. In this case the owner wanted to try it anyway so here it is.

Composition: 5 ply Spruce
Weight: 100.9g
Thickness: ~7.0mm
Freq.: 1510 Hz
Balance: 2.5 cm (low)

This was another one of my experiments during quarantine. I hadn't built a a 7 ply with kiri core in a while and I wanted to try this Smoked Eucalyptus. The blade is very linear, not bouncy at all, and has a soft but solid and muted feel. However, you can clearly feel the hard to ply on harder shots.

Composition: Smoked Eucalyptus / Ayous / Kiri / Kiri / Kiri / Ayous / Smoked Eucalyptus
Weight: 84.1 g
Thickness: 5.95 mm
Freq.: 1270 Hz
Balance: 2.4 cm (Low)

I bought this blade from Sergio and it plays beautifully!

Just the right speed and no horrible vibrations, like so many machine made all-wood blades. It seems to make the rubbers pop too on hard hits where the harder outer ply gets through the sponge. Oodles of spin and aggressive pushes are a dream, loads of control and a ton of backspin, same with serves.

I actually think this Smoked Eucalyptus is like Koto for the 40+ plastic ball, meaning Koto is the new Limba etc etc. It has this unusual property of making it easier to return spinny serves, but yet grips the ball like crazy on thin contact brush loops, both slow close to the table and faster 1-2 metres back. I think the Janka comes in at around Walnut level, but it feels closer to how Koto felt with the old ball to me.

Craftmanship superb, service second to none, really impressed with the experience of buying a blade from Sergio. We also exchanged a number of emails regarding ideas for future blade purchases, this guy really knows his stuff!

The first of 3 blades I made for a costumer. This one is my usual Innegra outer composition but with Indian Teak top ply.

Composition: Indian Teak / IC / Limba / Kiri / Limba / IC / Indian Teak
Weight: 90.7g
Thickness: ~5.7mm
Freq.: 1335 Hz
Balance: 1.9 cm (very low)

As Paul McCartney would say: "Ebony and Ivory live in perfect harmony..."

This was another commissioned blade and yes, I will admit it, it was mostly for the looks. But the composition is close to a Violin so it's also a fine playing blade.

Composition: White Koto / Glass-fiber / White Koto / Spruce / Black Ash / Glass-fiber / Black Ash
Weight: 85.9g
Thickness: 5.6mm
Freq.: 1140 Hz
Balance: 2.8cm (Low)

Here's something you don't see everyday, a 10 ply Limba blade with a Limba handle! Tested this one briefly and it's very solid, biggest sweetspot I've seen on a all-wood blade despite the relatively small thickness.

Composition: 10 Ply Limba
Weight: 99.5g
Thickness: ~5.45mm
Freq.: 1100 Hz
Balance: 2.6cm (low)

No, this is just something I threw together out of curiosity. I wanted to make an 11 ply initially but that would have been too much Limba! 100g is heavy enough...
