There are a lot of materials being used in blades these days. Which combinations will stand the test of time, and which are fads?

Which combinations do you like the most and why?

Any 1-ply Hinoki fans? Balsa? ZL fiber?

Clipper is 5 layers of ayous and limba top plies. But it certainly is a classic combination.

I would say three wood combinations:

1.  Clipper like:  limba - ayous - ayous - ayous - ayous - ayous - limba

2.  Korbel like:  limba - limba - ayous - limba - limba

3.  OC like:  limba - spruce - ayous - spruce - limba

Those 3 blades compositions are the most being copied by others.
Blade : Just wood
FH : black rubber
BH : red rubber

Old Stiga Allround blades also used this combination.

Isn't it died Koto? On some old models, Stiga also used Walnut at some point in history.

Viscaria is Koto - ALC - Limba - Kiri - Limba - ALC - Koto. But yes, this contruction is proven to be successful and somewhat timeless.

Truly classic? A three ply Hock, American birch, basswood, American birch. You have to dry the veneers to a specific moisture, use the exact right glue and heat under pressure. The birch veneers have to be from consecutive slices from the same log, so the grain matches on either side (no warpage that way).

One ply Kiso hinoki also gets a classic vote.

I've never tried it, but I've heard (quite recently) that Andro Timber 7 OFF/S has the same composition as the Clipper, but is faster (and more expensive too)
