OK. So everyone could do it with a shrink-wrapping machine.

I would think it would trap humidity in as much as out. Usually you want wood to breathe.

Plus if it shrank, might it warp the blade?

I guess it keeps the mouse/rat's lovely piss/crap off the blades in the warehouse storage and in transit on the ship...

... it is that or it is just done to frustrate the consumer and validate Amazon's "Frustration Free" packaging campaign.

Let's flip a coin or a Super ZJK to decide it.

No, shrink wrap doesn't keep moisture out, it traps moisture inside and can even melt in the heat, sticking to and ruining the surface of your blade. There's a reason why blade manufacturer put them into boxes loosely and not in vacuum-packed safes.

I have already thanked you provisionally for all the answers. But this does not mean that the thread is closed. Of course I would be happy about (many) more answers. Wink

I would shrink wrapped a new blade to prevent accumulation of dust or dirt; not so much as to protect it from humidity. Having used it, it would not make sense to shrink wrapped any further.

For me, I put in one or two small bags of silica gel which are readily available from snack bags into the original boxes or bags which I keep my blades. works okay also.
