Hi All, I mostly use soft rubbers (like Rakza 7 Soft, Acuda S3) and it is a pain to remove the glue from the sponge when I want to try a different blade setup. What glue do you suggest that is easy to remove? |

Easy way to remove old glue is to apply aN additional layer of latex glue like tear mender, let it dry and peel it off.

If you are moving the rubber to many blades, use wbg on the sponge, then rubber cement on the blade.

A locally made wbg called Ej's. Felt kinda similar to revolution, but i could never peel of revo from porous sponges no matter how many layers I applied, and i found it doesn't stick slightly domed rubbers well. The adhesion on this is just good enough to keep domed rubbers down while it does come of really clean without leaving any trace on the wood. It's not available online yet though, I it from a friend.

Hi, any water based glue can be easily removed without damaging porous sponge if you use a little bit of pure lamp oil.
First remove rubber from the blade as you usually do. Then use small bit of kit.chen sponge, top it up with lamp oil. Do not use a lot of lamp oil, just to make sponge wet and spread light coat over glue on sponge. Be careful that lamp oil doesn't end up on top sheet. Leave it for few minutes and it will be much easier to remove glue with your fingers. I did it quite few times and there was never any damage on the sponge. Make sure you use bright, not citronella, lamp oil. I've found 1 litre bottle in England for around £5. After you remove glue give few hours for lamp oil to evaporate and rubbers are ready for gluing. Here's lamp oil that I use: https://www.barrettinepro.co.uk/25/373/Indoor-Lamp-Oil%5b Edited by Kontra - 06/16/2020 at 3:20pm |

I cant recognize any changes of the rubber. And believe me, a do that very often.
So why not? Every sponge looks like new after cleaning with the iron. No damages or something else.

I'm not a visual guy. That video looks ok, but it doesn't actually tell me all that much. Is that iron on? How hot? Do you use steam?

God knows how many bottles I emptied already. Glue hold well, peels off easy. Its white water based. When removing stretches 1 third the length of wha tis shown in the picture in this thread. The last thing I would try is Nittaku finezip. Hight quality glue, but comes off together with sponge LOL

I have only good things to say about Finezip. The only negative is it's pretty expensive
It is thick.. so you need to get used to applying it fast and even.. once you master it -- it's amazing.
Remains flexible, very easy to peel off as shown above. Never had any damage of any kind to sponges, even to soft, thin and fragile 0.5 pips sponges. Not surprised it's a glue of choice for the CNT... it's really good. |

Best ones that I used are:
Revolution - great, but expensive... And that smell... Ugh... Haifu WBG - also great (probably a bit worse, than revolution), 300ml price is ok, smell is not that bad Both were very easy to remove.
