My first post in the group, so I hope there will be some response. I'm a multiball specialist and thinking of writing something that will allow me to pour out everything I've learned in the past ten years. Has anyone seen a comprehensive guide? Do you think it will be something that pingers would be interested in?
Many coaches use multiball but the technique can have enormous benefits that go beyond simply feeding many balls from a pot. The power of this technique can make it possible for a coach help the pupil in all aspects of play - yes even the elusive mental areas of confidence, and dealing with competition. At this stage I haven't decided what format to use for publishing. But I am excited about the prospect and I welcome ideas and suggestions.

There are very general drills, which I think every one does. I think you need to have all the general ones in there. However, I come up with special drills quite often, depending on the players need or what I want from the player. Not sure if you do the same. So the "general" and then "special" section, I think you would have a big coverage. But I think the major question is - how many people actually does multiball and feed. And of those that already are doing - do they still need these information. Who is your target audience etc.

I think everyone can look around the internet and see what drills are being fed as far as sequence and position.
As an expert specialist, perhaps some blog posts centered on the lesser examined, more subtle aspects of feeding? How to maintain (or vary) quality and spin, how to evaluate the player and feed at a helpful pace and depth, areas where you think multiball is most helpful and where it can be a detriment. I think a guide of some sort would be very interesting. Some players approach feeding as just knocking some balls to certain parts of a table, but it really is a skill/art of its own. Looking forward to your insights. |

Thanks for being the first to comment on my first post! My plan is certainly to cover as many variations as possible including drills for beginners and also more advanced players.
I am aware that many coaches are using multiball. But many of the examples I have seen, including many on YouTube, are poorly executed. Also there is not much that deals with how to progress a pupil using the technique. Thanks again for your comments.

I agree with you that there is a lot of skill in using multiball to its fullest extent. One example that I have not seen covered in YouTubes is how to use multiball to assess the pupil's ability to react to variations in pace, delivery frequency, spin and placement. Too many coaches simply feed at one pace (usually too slow).
There is more I could say but it is encouraging to see some positive reaction to the idea - so thanks!

this has always been my program using multiballs:
1. multiballs to teach a stroke or footwork with strokes. 2. situational or hybrid multiballs to teach sequence or application of the pattern or randomness to teach reaction and chain-linking strokes and footwork without serves. 3. transitioning to service receive followed by sequence learned from multi ball drills.
