I found H8-80 softer and slower compared to D9C. If this is not a problem for you, is a good rubber..

Imo this can easily be dealt with if the spin levels are very high - is that the case?

H8-80 is a fantastic choice to replace D09c. It's softer, easier to use for touch play, blocking and has a higher arc and better at flat hits and much cheaper.

D09c has a slight edge in spin generation and fast attack.

D09c has a pretty big advantage in weight (lighter) and over the table counter play.

I think Yinhe Jupiter 3 or Big Dipper would be the best Chinese replacement for D09c

what made 09c on my backhand unique is the gears on what I can do with it

I can slow my return contacting with the top sheet and the firmer sponge kept is linear when I do add speed and hit through the sponge

H8-80 felt too soft. It was difficult to hit through. Gotta really brush
I am a total Newb. Come at me!

Did you try it on the FH?

Have you considered Rakza Z or extra hard?
I know of some Japanese players that went from D09c to that.
(\__/)

(='.'=) But there's no sense crying over every mistake,

(")_(") You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

I haven't really considered it as I saw quite a few reviews which say that the spin levels and performance is quite a lot below D09c...

If you've used it for a while, could you comment on the durability? How long does the tackiness last for and does the sponge harden up into a brick?

Durability is fantastic. You can easily get 300-500 hours out of it. I clean the topsheet every time after training and apply a plastic foil and even the stickiness doesn't fade away, it still picks up and holds the ball.
The sponge actually maybe softens up a little over time. This is not boosted by the factory and doesn't need it.

I bought a new setup with Hurricane 8-80. It seemed a lot higher throw and even faster/bouncier than D09c (granted my 09c is an old sheet which doesn't perform as well as it used to). I had to close my racket angle and finish forward quite a bit more to avoid just missing the table so often.

It seems to be as spinny as 09c (however it's not spinnier than 09c imo), maybe 09c new has even more spin imo.

Short touch, serving and flicks are quite comparable to 09c.

In general it's a cheap rubber which definitely performs quite well even unboosted. Imo i think it's quite underrated

I think weight wise it's similar to 09c, so no complaints from my end
