When is it okay to return a serve with a RPB. My service return game is terrible and im trying to become more aggressive on my returns. i just hate pushing bad underspin spins all the time.

I often see wang hao return serves with a RPB, but whenever i try it i always hit it into the net or over the table.

any other basic tips on service return would be great. im pretty new to the game competitevly.

to return with topspin a short underspin serve as a rpb player, you have like wang hao a better grip than petr korbel and zhang jike, 2 shakehand specialists of the genre.

Both grips have to do the same though: lift the ball up and apply topspin; since you are over the table your only way is sidespin contacting the ball right under the equator with an upwards motion.

At first, try to just lift the ball up and observe how the underspin brings the ball down as soon as it clears the net. When you feel comfortable with that, add more force to your stroke; of course the more force the more tangential the contact needs to be.

I have gone to a very very soft spong for my bh, and I am getting a lot more balls on the table. Much forgiving.
