    Posted: 02/08/2015 at 4:53am
I have two questions. The first is this original viscaria?
I have my doubts. As the handle is not spent J.T.T.A.A. There was a version?
The second question is how much is worth viscaria in very good condition?

With a black tag in good condition it should be worth a lot of money, a few hundred perhaps depending on the buyer. I can't say what version exactly, but the black tag is the older version.

As a player,I would not pay a few hundred for a blade just because it has a black tag. I understand it "may" play better but not really worth it for me personally.

Your Vis looks original. Second series.

I saw a few Viscaria blades from 1st and 2nd generation that no longer had the JTTA stamp/letters.
I do own one or two which also lost the letters or have fading letters (have to check again).

The reason should be one of the former owners has sanded the bottom of the handle to round the edges. The letters vary from blade to blade in terms of how deep they are stamped/branded into the wood. A little sanding and some may fade away.

First series:
1993-1996 (F L, S T) > black tag, no serial numbers, there are differences within the first series in terms of the handles
Second series:
1997-2005 (FL,ST) > black tag, no serial numbers
Third series:
2006-2007 (FL,ST) > black tag, serial numbers
New series:
from 2008 on (FL) >  silver tag, serial numbers

Second series are from 200 to 220 eur (depends on condition), so third version is worth less than that...

You´re welcome. No need to be afraid any longer. It is original.
If it has serial number it surely is from 3rd series, edizg is absolutely right.

I think you can find the second version Vis FL more often. I guess third version hasn´t been produced that much. A second version FL in very good condition that still has its imprint and maybe has nice Koto outer plies can go above 300€ these days. But of course there are some that are sold for 120€ or less. It depends on condition.

The third version Viscaria FL blades I saw overall changed its owner for less money compared to second version Viscaria FL.

Me too have a Viscaria old tag, second version, without J.T.T.A.A. The handle was sanded on the bottom of the handle.
Btw, how much do you want for Viscaria old tag?

I always hear early versions are better. How better? Faster, more feeling, better control, heavier, more rigid or softer?

The old ones I have are usually a little more flexible, and softer than the majority of new ones.  That means most of the older ones are just a touch slower and have better control.  It is not a gigantic effect, but I can tell the difference between my three black tag ones (all have serial numbers) and all of my new sliver tag ones.  I don't think it's a matter of age, I think that it is something in the way they make them.  A lot of the most recent ones tend to be significantly lighter also, some will like it, I don't.
