I like putting heavy topspin on the ball...
Cybershape Carbon FH/BH: H3P 41D. Lumberjack TT, not for lovers of beautiful strokes. No time to train... |

I love how Liu Guoliang shook hands at the end like "you're still unfairly going to the Olympics, don't worry".

what's interesting to me is after the loss LGL didn't have much to say... but after ML's close win over Tristan Flore he had a boat load of things to say...

ZJK did play awarkardly at the end. He had three match points and did not grasp any of them. He also chopped several times.
CNT should seriously consider replacing ZJK with FZD for Rio.

After the match:
LGL symbolically touched ZJK's hand, then turned around and walked straight ahead without turning his head to even look at ZJK, much less to talk to ZJK. LGL knew there would be articles about this match and there would be an avalanche of readers comments - LGL just didn't know how to handle this situation. All Chinese TT fans know that ZJK is LGL' personal choice - by first turning down ITTF's invitation of FZD, then turning down ITTF's invitation of XX, then accepted ITTF's 3rd invitation of ZJK. Now it is LGL's problem.

Chen Chien An is not a powerful player, but his soft and early touch play gives Zhang Jike a lot of problems, provided he can keep the percentage high and not play lots of loose balls.
CCA doesn't back up at all, perhaps because he is not a power player; instead he stays up close, a bit like Emmanuel Lebesson (FRA), but he doesn't overcommit like Lebesson to a big stroke and take risks.
He has really good hands and both a soft block that uses ZJK's spin against him and also a deep white line block that cramps ZJK and leave ZJK unable to apply power. His loop is fairly early (doesn't let it drop so much usually) and can be short and low, ZJK ends up having to chop those, or he can loop spinny deep on the white line to awkward spots and the corners very well. ZJK doesn't defend those very well. He is clearly also able to return ZJK's serve pretty well; only misreading now and then. I'm not sure there is much Liu Guoliang can tell ZJK in-between games. LGL stayed fairly quiet. Hope Chen Chien An gets to play ZJK in the Olympics. CCA qualified in the Hong Kong Asian Qualifying tournament back in April. |

CCA is a very inconvenient opponent for ZJK, for sure. About two or three years ago, I believe, there was a team competition Taiwan vs China, and there CCA also beat ZJK, it was by an even higher margin. Anyone has more details on that past match?

LGL can not make decision by himself to pick ZJK to play at Rio. There are upper level leader like CZH who can still order LGL to do this and that.

It was in the 2013 World Team Classic. Here is a video of that match. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNdAZV9bozQ

Exactly, that's the one. At that time we were not yet accustomed to ZJK's variable form...
