Miu Hirano got her butt handed to her; Chen completely exploited her weakness after the first game.   CryCryCryCryCry

P.S. LSW lost again

Any country (except china) would kill to have a 16 year old world champion.

Not sure what weakness in Hirano's game she exploited. It seems that Hirano played at a very low level in this match compared to her world cup performance. Her backhand was flawless in Philadelphia - here she made numerous errors. I am not taking anything away from Chen Meng, but she did not really have an adversary in this match and Hirano is capable of much better play.

The first game was crucial. As this was the first match, both Chen Meng and Hirano played rather reservedly. Chen Meng kept changing the pace, one that Hirano was not comfortable playing against. Every point was short. The usual quick exchanges were few and far between. This is what Waldner talked about being able to play at different stages of timing.

That was some of the most relentless elbow targeting that I have ever seen.  It was almost like Hirano was being forced to think and move on most shots because the ball wasn't coming in a speed she likes to react to.

Hirano has a LSW-like play style - speed. There are basically 2 ways to beat a speed player (aside from good placement): be faster, or have high quality shots with a mix of rhythm. Chen Meng did the latter. Chen Meng is similar to Li Xiaoxia in that they both have tremendous power. In fact, aside from LXX, Chen Meng has the most power in the top tier of the woman's team. It's difficult to play with speed when incoming shots have such high quality. Another example is when playing against Liu Shiwen. Ding Ning, when compared to Li Xiaoxia, has much greater difficulty when playing against LSW.

Exactly,
Chen did few things (may be Ma Lin pointed out to her) after the first game. She slowed down the game a little bit , served fast-long to Miu's bh and served short to Miu's fh.  Miu must work on her fh flick, bh block and timing adjustment  Cry. Good thing is that she has many coaches now LOL

ya, however, the funny thing is that Chen Meng has no problem changing the rhythm in her shots, but she has problems to adjust her rhythm.

Here is a good video for Hirano to use for case study. Roughly half way in the 1st game, Yang pointed out LSW couldn't get her flow going as CM kept messing around the pace.

The color commentary was provided by former Chinese Taipei player Yang Meng-Hsing(楊孟勳).
