been watching schlager training video his flips seem super fast. i've been wondering what the stroke should look like if your using slower equipment.lets say an all wood blade or slower offensive wood blades.

Its an instinctive shot, just imitate it to the best of your abilities as most of the speed comes from the forearm and wrist.

key points are:
height of ball and whether the serve has backspin. If backspin low bounce then maybe slower racket might even help on pickup if you still wanted to flick with topspin. However if serve is tight and low at last instant your instinct should tell you to do a kind of sidespun 'wipe' hiding direction of shot till last moment. The slow speed helps you to prepare for the 4th ball. If yr change of direction is good you may have taken away the 3rd ball opportunity from the server. Just flicking fast with topspin can work against you if you dont direct with subtlety: The server may just tee off on yr flick. |
