Hi,
I use Xiom Zeta Offensive, a fast 7-ply offensive wood, in combination with medium hard rubbers. I rely more on my backhand to open up and and my forehand is still a work in progress as far as looping is concerned. I can flip well from the backhand. I'm looking for an all-wood blade which is lighter than 90 gms. I've shortlisted Nostalgic Offensive and Akkad. Can anyone highlight the features of both or compare any or both of them to other good options. I'm not looking to spend more than 60 euros. Please share your thoughts. Thanks. |

there are a lot of great allwood blades out there. Pg-7, Clipper and infinity vps v come to my mind. I'd recommend the infinity.

A friend of mine, one of the best players I know, is currently using Mizuno Fortius FT with Bluestorm Z1 (BH) and boosted H3 Neo (FH).

Mine 5 ply is 77g. I use med hard tacky Chinese rubbers which makes setup to be head-heavy at 183g total. The feel, the placement and control are superb. Regarding speed ... I am not sure. When I really "go for it" but miss the table and hit opponents hip he makes funny "auch" sound. When ball lands nicely on the table and bounces into opponent's belly he also makes "auch" sound and there is a glowing red mark from the ball. So it is slow blade or powerful blade depending on your mood really. Shhhh, don't tell anyone :) BTW, the link above is just a sample, I purchased mine from another shop.

My all wood blades in order of preference (I stopped EJ 10 yrs ago, so these are probably old) OSP Virtuoso offensive- Clipper Wood Petr Korbel Xiom AmadeusI would say I like the OSP blade the best comparing to all the blades I have EJ'ed wood or composite. The only problem is it looks so nice. I just can't stand the thought of damaging it. So it went back to the box with all original packaging and stayed there since!

That Hinoki Ghost blade looks really interesting, but he said he wanted to cap his price at 60 euros.
Question for the OP regarding the Xiom Zeta Offensive. I have a Xiom Zeta Offensive+ Carbon. My blade feels like a brick. I absolutely can not play that blade. Have you tried it and can you compare it to your blade? Also, If your maximum price is 60 euros, maybe you should be looking for second hand blades. It's not all wood, but I'd sell you my extra Xiom Zetro Quad for 60 euros. The carbon layers on Zetro Quad are pretty deep so it has a pretty woody feel. I'd sell you my Zeta Off+ Carbon for 30 euros. Its basically a brand new blade. I used it about 5 times.

Zeta Offensive is a very good blade. The best all-wood I've played with. It's not a brick, very consistent in blocks, good high throw, lovely to loop with. I'm just exploring another option since I love the woody feel. If I'm not able to get a better option at my price point, I'll stick with the Zeta Offensive.
