To all,

Recently one of the Chinese coaches showed me a short video of a robot the Chinese were using that actually holds a racket and then feeds multiball to the players.  What an amazing robot! Has anyone else seen this? How much do these cost? They look very expensive.

A human feeder who know what they are doing will adapt to the trainee's weaknesses while commenting so we can't replace this however the gap filled from the traditional ball pitching machine is so huge! it's actually as close as possible to the real deal.

How long before a robot like this can roll around and play for good? that's way ahead and I imagine an intermediate step will be to catch the incoming ball while it throws another one from right there realistically, with the spin that would be on the ball had a player hit the incoming ball. Does it make sense?

*plays terminator theme*

Not long until the robot themselves will have randomized touch and spin levels to simulate the way a human ball feeder does.

Soon you'll have robot players which will eventually exceed the top human players in a fair game.

Do they allow for as much spin variation as a traditional 2 wheel robot.  Is the ball quality somehow better tha a traditional robot?  Is it more of the timing and visual cues being better than standard robot?

They may use an actual racket. Eventually a real robot could even mimic position, but these are more like on a tripod

It's an entirely different ball machine design, based on feeding multi-ball.

However I suspect it's less versatile than current robots out there since the basis of this robot is to use a throw wheel into the motor of the "playing hand".

It does let the player see the spin coming off of a paddle and I would assume be able to vary frequency/delay and other variables, thus being able to train a player much like a coach can do with multi ball.

I've always imagined a robot that is on rails, able to move across the table to give different ball angles quickly being the next step but this is an interesting concept too.
