Hello!
I'm a beginner and just wanted some advice on a blade and rubber/sponge combo for tacky spin play. I've been using a shakehand bty balsa carbo x5 with 1.9 sriver L's to develop my strokes, but would like to feel the difference a chinese-style rubber would offer in terms of service return and push capability. I'm thinking of getting Bty Tackifire Special (not soft) or maybe one of Friendship's offerings, but I pretty much know nothing :P. Can someone more experienced with chinese rubbers give me some advice? |

any hard chinese rubber would give that soft X5 a good crisp feel. if you want more spin with chinese rubber, you have to brush more. if you want speed you have to stroke through forward...
push is great, full of control...as for service return, to have to read carefully what sort of serve your opponent is giving...as chinese rubber is extra spin sensitive, either you counter the spin or work with the spin
tackifire special would be a very good chinese-like japanese rubber...but a bit expensive compared to hurricane series and 729 series

see if cole can make you a pair of 729 Cream on MRS 1.8's. Incredible control and very utilitarian.
may be slower than the sriver, but will push, loop, block and counter better and easier, as well as be better on serves. |

Tackifire isn't like a traditional chinese rubber, it has a quite soft topsheet and different playing characteristics. The tackifire is like a hybrid of jap and chinese stuff. I'm not really sure what you want, but I use TG3. If you want more info, I suggest you ask cole

There are no stupid questions; only stupid people... I'm probably not referring to you

Thanks for all the advice! I really appreciate it.
I think I'm going to order a pair of 729 creams. I can't wait to try them out. I looked for the Skyline tg3s, but I don't think cole stocks them anymore. Thanks again azrin, icontek & HKdude ^^ |
