amateur,

Do you know when Ochenhausen plays Fulda (where I think Aruna might play Jha)?  Thanks,

NL.
I like putting heavy topspin on the ball...

Tomorrow at 3pm local (9am on the East Coast). This is a German Cup match (round of 16), not a TTBL match. The format might be a little different, I'm not sure.

Kanak made some big time blocks in that match. Good win.

His forehand loop is getting so much better. Timo style, supported by a top notch athleticism and footwork. In fact his footwork improvement is what makes his fh that improved, he is fast moving enough to be well positioned on all balls that fall in the right 2/3 of the table. His brushing style has a wide range of spins and we can tell he is more and more confident there. His bh opening is very stable and fluid so I was wondering why he was shy to bh kill a block after his fh attack, he seemed to just put it back on the table, managing his leadership of the rally, that's the only answer I could find because some of these balls he could full arm bh kill in his sleep. It gives an idea of the pressure on his shoulders in those matches. In addition, every stroke will be analyzed thoroughly in his position so I understand he does not want to fool around and experiment on the fly :)

And isn't it nice that a US player beats someone in the top 50 and it's not a monumental event?

Kanak was #27 in April 2020 when Filus was #42. I agree, time flies! Wink Remember when he was on his way to win his 1st US Nationals?

Bad news:
The entire Ochsenhausen team is now in a mandatory 14-day quarantine after a training partner tested positive for Covid-19. Their upcoming matches have been postponed.

It is good to see Kanak make progress.  I hope he stays in Europe for at least 5 more years so he can reach his playing potential.

And now Grenzau has a positive case, and another player in quarantine because of the Ochsenhausen situation. That quarantine was apparently prompted by a Belgian player in the training group testing positive. It's not known whether Kanak was personally in contact with him - the news just said that 4 Ochsenhausen players need to quarantine.

Ochsenhausen should be back in action this Friday in their German Cup quarterfinal against second-division team Fortuna Passau (6pm local). An easy matchup on paper, but the quarantine must have impacted practice and preparations.

Kanak is not in the lineup today: Calderano, Gauzy, Kulczycki.
That should do against this opponent.

Yesterday Ochsenhausen won 3-0 and qualified for the "Final Four."

Tomorrow (3pm local) they will resume their league play against Bremen (Falck, Aguirre, Gerassimenko, Szöcs).

Wang Xi now attacks more than he chops. Very fast for a 36 year old.

"You really think you have the level to tell Kanak what material to use?"

well...of course I do not but it's fun to speculate and wonder:

He is faster and much more muscular today, his athleticism is high up there, he positions himself so well and so fast for all his FH strokes, his forehand is so much better than before, it's amazing.

Could it be that the:

1) blade is too stiff and fast for his new strength?
2) rubbers are boosted  too much?
3) rubbers are too bouncy?
4) rubbers are not spinny enough?

I saw so many balls going long and the way the ball bounces too much takes control away, it seems they are over boosted. It forces him to use his nice touch too often and that gives floating balls that the opponent can kill. The silver lining is by downgrading blade speed and increasing the spin factor of the rubbers, the touch he was forced to develop to compensate an exaggerated speed factor will become scary.

What blade and rubbers does he play? websites say TB ALC & T05H + Dignics 05, is that for real? we can't never be sure.

In my illusory expertise, he'd need more flex with a thinner blade in the OFF- range with Dignics 05 MAX (that I never tried) on the FH (going the Hurricane way is of course not a option) and Dignics 09C 1.9 (that I only read about) to support his mighty chiquitas with less sponge as he will graze the ball more often there while pivoting as often as he can.

What about the blade choice? a custom, balanced 92 to 95 grams Violin construction comes to mind. His game is so clean he does not need composite and 5-ply all wood could do wonders for him. He's under contract with BTY, what do they have in that range? a good old heavy Korbel maybe?  they are under $70 and he would make a great point succeeding with it. If he wants to stick with composite, the Apolonia is his best shot, I am 100% convinced of it, it is far better than the dull and stiffer TB ALC, pushing the composite in is the way to go if he wants some and all Innerforce ALC type things are inferior to the Apolonia.

Yep, he could adapt to a 92gr Apolonia with Dignics 05 MAX FH and Dignics 09C 1.9 BH in no time and kick Wang Xi's game real good with it, mark my words! LOL

I was just having fun speculating based on what I think I saw; truth is I have no clue, just like your typical fan going "blahdediblah!" all day long.

My opinion is he is awesome and continues to improve.
His FH couterloop and loose ball put away is a little on the inside and that causes it to go long.
Probably from years of favoring the BH.
He could hook and pull left shoulder sronger in those rallies and be more stable.

Hi,

Speaking of the future, how many U.S. National Men's Singles Championships will Kanak win?  I'm torn between selecting 14 or 20.  I just can't decide!

I will keep you updated on the accuracy of my prediction.

Thanks.
