Batra played good against Wang Manyu. I believe the match against Bergstrom Linda really "broke" her confidence. She was really uncomfortable in that match.

Pitchford can take on anybody today, he is peaking! next year he might surprise a lot of people with that crazy good backhand and his growing self confidence. I like him more and more, a bit like I used to like ZJK in 2010 when I was watching him returning with a bh chiquita serves coming short on his fh side: I told my friends "that guy could be world champion, he can do anything and some" and they thought I was full of it. I have the same feel about Pitchford today.

Japan will have trouble reaching the final at this rate. They seriously need to qualify for the main draw as 1st in group.

Awesome job from Pitchford. England beats Japan 3-1 !
Wow... I did not expect Niwa to lose to Walker. If not for that, Harimoto would probably take the fifth from Drinkhall. Probably... |

Pitchford can beat anyone, except the big 3 from china. He is a very underrated player.

I don't think that's realistic. Unless he goes and plays a year in Chinese Superleague. Pitchford has (had?) great potential in terms of speed and natural ability, but he still lacks somewhat in consistency. Point in fact: how many relatively not-super-complicated BH flips he missed with Mizutani? mostly due to nerves or getting too tight - which should not be a problem for him by now... but it still is. Also - unfortunately, he is just a tad too tall to become a great player. This, by the way, is one of the small things that contributed into Samsonov not realizing his full potential - with his potential being far greater than that of LP's, imho. Another one was his (relative, of course) passivity. In 2003 he literally was inches away from another WTTC final (and perhaps, world champion title), if only he would have put a little more fire in his game vs Kreanga in QF. Anyways, Liam is a very fine player but I doubt he will ever even enter a WR top-10. Although, if he keeps on being a tad lucky and playing like he does now, he could break into top-10 this time. Luck is important as we all know. |

I understand but if he misses it's because he goes for gold all the time, indicating the right attitude. In that framework if he adds more self confidence something will be clicking in his mind and suddenly everything will land, that's what I see happening now. It should have happened before but euro players always peak later in life due to a different approach when they grow up.

Liam played like a solid top 10 player today. Looking at the ranking table, WONG Chun Ting, LEE Sangsu, NIWA Koki, GAUZY Simon are there in the top 10. Why Liam can't?
I don't think height is a problem, even opposite. His long reach allows him to attack short balls very aggressively, especially with his BH flick. |

I agree, that he could. I am just saying that I don't think he will - unless he gets a little lucky and also continues to play like he did in the past few days. Alll the other guys you mentioned (except for Niwa) are in Top Ten for a few seconds and then quickly drop out as they could not consistently perform at that level. Then perhaps they move back in, like WCT, and then drop out again. Also, we all understand that some of these guys are in Top Ten only because Zhang Jike, Fang Bo, Yan An, Zhou Yu, Liang Jingkun et al cannot play enough international tournaments to maintain their proper ITTF ranking. |

6 ft is actualy not that bad - he always looked taller to me. It's probably his "gangliness" that leads to overestimating his height. Still, 5'10" would have been perfect, I think. On the other hand, Wang Liqin was 6'1" and look at his achievements. However, his overall build was so much physically tougher than Liam's. |

England vs Japan: 3-1.
I know the 3 matches that England won: Pitchford won 2, and Walker won 1. What are the players of the match that England lost? Thanks in advance.

The one loss for England was Paul Drinkhall losing to Mizutani.

It seems people forget the last time Pitchford played Japan, he lost 2-3 in close matches to Yoshimura and Mizutani and Walker beat Oshima.

One interesting thing is that Jeon Jihee is now playing this kind of tournament - in the earlier rounds, they put that ^ next to her name which usually indicates she can't play tournaments like this which to me was funny give that she was playing this tournament. She must have left China as a junior or something and waited long enough. Good for her. They have removed the ^.
