first poster starts out by telling a story...and next poster continues on with the story...ideally keeping a table tennis theme throughout.

i will start.

Once upon a time there was a little boy in the people's republic of china.  he was from the province of guangdong, on the south china sea.  his province was also known as canton....or kwangtun...province of english.   like every other boy and girl in the worlds most populous country he had dreams of making the chinese national table tennis team and to further his english education so that he would be down with the esoteric slang of the jive talking homey's and original gangstas he saw depicted on western television.....

...and then he discovered mytabletennis.net and from then on instead of working with coaches on improving his skills, he sought for the best equipment.
After 10 years of trial and error, working graveyard shifts on different jobs and often drinking with coworkers, he became too fat to play table tennis and now uses that as an excuse to finding even faster equipment than what he currently has. He never made it to the national team.
The end.

then one day, after being sick and tired of being sick and tired he saw an ad for weight loss on tv for jenny craig   pronounced zhenni ke lai ge in chinese.   although he had worked the graveyard shift for 10 yrs he was still only 11 yrs old so there was still time for him to achieve his dreams because unbeknownst to his boss for the previous decade he had spent every single shift training to make the chinese national team....

Going back from Jenny Craig's program, still dizzy from the prolonged fasting and minimum diet intake, he crossed the road without paying attention to the surroundings.  He was struck by a big truck, and died on the way to the hospital.

upon arriving at the hospital the little boy Chang was pronounced dead on arrival.   he was being wheeled down the hall in a gurney to be cremated when an intern saw a penhold blade peking out from under the white sheet and asked:

"by chance, is that Chang" the boy who was twaining to be on the national team?

the accompanying nurse replied:  "wei' (yes)

"but he is a "Chang" and we all know that "Chang" means "to grow old"....".he can't be dead; thats impossible..the greatest emperor to ever live qin shi huang would roll over in his grave if every Chang on earth did not live to be 126 yrs old.....check his pulse"

"you check it" the nurse replied..."im on break"

At age 125, Chang is still searching for the best equipment due to having been absorbed by the "wise" users of mytt. He never once stepped into a gym and only played with fresh equipment. 2 hours old tops before he sold them.
His great grandson age 5, using a cheap 5ply with 2 sheets of 729fx plays better than he ever than he ever did in his "prime" using Amultart with 2 sheets of Tenergy, Extra expensive having been signed by Timo Boll.
He never made it to the national team.

inspired by the great playing ability of his grandson, Chang decided to not give up on his dream of becoming a national team member despite being 125 yrs old and to seek out the fountain of youth...he recalled how a couple in their eighties found a 'fountain of youth' in China's northern Liaoning province.  Zhou Lianghua and his wife Li Guirong attributed their youthfulness to drinking water from a well which they discovered two years previous in their courtyard in Fuxing village in Pulandian.   Zhou, who was balding, miraculously grew a full head of black hair. His wife's grey hair  also turned black. The couple said they felt '70 years younger' and did not get out of breath climbing hills....

One day, while practicing his serve and serve return that he hoped would improve his table tennis skills from its current very low level, Chang heard the Voice.  The Voice  suggested that instead of pursuing a very challenging task that required years of practice and extraordinary commitment to training, he should design his own unique competition.

The Voice recommended that the competition consist of a set of few very specific, technical skills in sports which Chang was pretty good at, and preferably include sports that have very limited geographic participation.    The competition should also exclude any "skill-independent" all-round athletic abilities that can be possessed by many competent athletes, such as: endurance, strength, power, speed, flexibility, durability, or analytic aptitude, and be obscure enough so it limits the number of participants and doesn't attract any real money and sponsors, as money would make it worthwhile for real athletes to train for.

Chang was a little hesitant about doing what the voice recommended, because ...

....because the voice went on to say "you chong kai ri, ren wu zai shao nian  (flowers may bloom again, but a person never has the chance to be young again.  so don't waste your time).. Chang didn't know what to do...seek out the fountain of youth and pursue his dream of becoming a national team member or create a multi sports skills competition.  Was he wasting his time pursuing anything as the Voice seemed to suggest?  He was getting mixed messages.

Chang recalled studying the bible as a child and often thought of the verse 1 john 4 ..."don't believe everything you hear"...and although The Voice sounded authoritative enough he knew The Voice was completely wrong with some of the things It was saying so he decided to disregard all of Its suggestions.  Even a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.  "so true" Chang thought to himself.  I must begin to weave and the God of my understanding will give me the thread.

I must seek out the Fountain of Youth..

No sooner than Chang began his journey with the proverbial "first step" he heard a western voice through the crowd call out:  "yo Changster...what up dawg"..

Chang swung around to see......

... the "western voice" belonged to his friend Wang, who left for Canada several years ago to study clinical psychology at the University of Victoria, in his quest to become World's Best Clinical Psychologist.

Chang thought it was fortuitous to meet a clinical psychologist, as he continued to hear The Voice that was trying to convince him to design own competition that would allow him to call himself the best in the World.

Upon hearing Chang's description of what The Voice was saying, Wang immediately realized that The Voice wasn't external and that it came from within Chang himself.   Wang became concerned about what he heard and invited Chang for lunch to further investigate his friend's situations.

After talking for about an hour, Wang began suspecting that Chang might suffere of Narcissistic Personality Disorder, as he exhibited most of its symptoms, including:

- Setting unrealistic goals
- Believing that he's better than others
- Fantasizing about power, success and attractiveness
- Exaggerating his achievements and talents
- Expecting constant praise and admiration
- Believing that he was special and acting accordingly
- Failing to recognize other people's emotions and feelings
- Expressing disdain for those he felt are inferior
- Being jealous of others
- Believing that others are jealous of him
- Having a fragile self-esteem
- Appearing as tough-minded or unemotional

However, Wang felt uneasy about revealing his observations to Chang as he didn't know how the diagnosis would be received by his friend.   So Wang decided to ...

so Wang decided to ask the most accomplished psychiatrist the world has ever known about his uneasiness and after doing so it become abundantly clear that he had misdiagnosed his friend Chang.  In fact, Wang was known the world over for his unbroken string of misdiagnoses'...so much so that The Guiness Book of World Records was trying to contact him to get his permission to include him in their book for the Worst Doctor To Ever Live category.    Wang often thought about suicide.

The most accomplished psychiatrist the world has ever known, Dr. Rick Chard Andersenn, explained to Wang that he was experiencing a form of psychological projection whereby he (Wang) was trying to defend himself against unpleasant impulses by denying their existence in himself while attributing them to others...

Wang shook his head in disbelief and muttered...."maybe that's why I don't have any patients...I'm just not that good....aiyaaa, ngo gowchoo"  (darn, i did it wrong)

overtaken by grief at his own ineptitude and embarrassed by being known as The Worst Doctor To Ever Live,  Wang reached into his back pocket where he always kept a bottle of cyanide and quickly drank it....he died 15 minutes later and was cremated within the hour...

The medical and scientific community, as well as his 2,175 patients, grieved Wang's sudden death, as he has been known to be the World's Best Mental Health Professional.

The police began their investigation and quickly realized that it wasn't a suicide, as clinical psychologists never keep poisonous substances in their pockets, since they frequently deal with unstable patients.

The investigation quickly progressed and determined that it was the self described "most accomplished psychiatrist the world has ever known" who killed Wang.   He confessed to this crime and stated that he did it because he was jealous of Wang's accomplishments.

In the meantime, Zhang's condition deteriorated, as it went untreated, and he started working on developing his own competition. He also joined several internet forums (some focused on table tennis) as an outlet for his growing ego.  He started writing incendiary comments belittling table tennis skills of other forum members, as it made him feel better about his ow low level skills, as well as posting pictures of his imaginary girlfriends in bikinis, hoping that other forum members would believe it and admire his sexual prowess ...

although Zhang's condition deteriorated Chang's was in excellent condition and his conviction was overturned on appeal due to a bungled police investigation whereby blood was planted by the local police.  Prior to the appeals verdict...Chang's supporters could be heard in the streets screaming in Chinese:  "if it don't fit...you must aquit"    When the appellate court asked Chang if he would like to address the court before they rendered their verdict Chang calmly stated...

In addition to Narcissism, Chang also began to suffer from multiple personality disorder which exhibited itself by him starting to use two different names, Chang and Zhang (The Voice), depending which personality took over his mind.

Chang's/Zhang's disorders also led to some irrational behaviors.  For example, he appeared as a witness at a murder trial of "most accomplished psychiatrist the world has ever known" but during cross examination he confessed to the murder, which the court didn't believe, of course, since cyanide doesn't cause bleeding.   After the court determined he wasn't a credible witness due to his mental health issues, he walked out of court claiming that he had won the case, which further boosted his already hugely inflated ego.  From that point on, the Zhang personality totally took over Chang's brain.

In the meantime, Zhang's own competition was masterfully developed so that it doesn't attract any serious athletes, and he started training secretly to become the World's Best 10 Obscure Skill Athlete.

He also continued to write incendiary comments on internet forums, as well as posting pictures for his imaginary girlfriends in biking outfits ...

Chang was deciding in what direction to head on his journey to the Fountain of Youth when he saw his old teacher from the Shaolin Monastery, Master Po.  Chang told his Master about his plans to become a table tennis champion at the highest level and after he achieved that to go after something more significant...he wanted to become the worlds best  all around athlete.

Master Po:  those are worthy goals Chang....i wish you the best.

Chang:  yes, master po...xie xie..

Master Po:  be forwarned though Chang..you will encounter many naysayers, so don't feed the trolls...haters gonna hate

Chang:  why will they hate me for trying to be the best i can be Master?

Master Po:  because they are underachievers and are therefore prone to anxiety, depression and self-destructive behaviour

Chang:  you mean like trying to tear other people down who have accomplished things and want to accomplish more?

Master Po:  exactly.  deep down inside they want to be that person striving to do things but because it typically involves a lot of work they shy away from it because they are lazy and then they have contempt for those who actually go out and make a difference to the world...

Chang:  that's sad Master...

Master Po:  yes Chang...it is very sad.....Cry  the best thing is to ignore them the way you would ignore cow dung on the side of the road....you smell the odor and try not to get too close but it stinks by nature so it will have  its say as you walk by....but remember, it will remain trying to stink up peoples day while you continue on with your quest...

Chang: yes Master Po...now i understand....

Master Po:  and remember too Chang, most of these naysaying trolls will be anonymous by their very nature for fear of being found out and called to task...

it is always easier to stay in the shadows and cast aspersions...so remember Chang...you will be dealing with anonymous underachieving cowards originating from a land far away...so just keep two words in mind

Chang: cow dung?

Master Po:  yes Chang, you are a fast learner....

Master Po: My dear Chang, don't forget the most important rule of the online forums:

If you meet a Buddha, kill him!

Meditating on this rule is the most direct way to achieving anuttara samyag sambodhi (unequalled perfect enlightenment) and parinirvana (the state of being no one and nothing).

- never again boast about his table tennis skill as player or coach
- never again criticize table tennis players or coaches in a derogatory manner (only constructively)
- give up his World's Best 10 Obscure Skill Athlete competition
- practice monogamy (both real and imaginary), and

- commit himself 100% to finding Fountain of Youth ...

Chang:  thank you Master Po

Master Po:  what else have you  learned?

Chang:  that most table tennis players don't like girls

Master Po:   haha, well i am an old blind man so i don't have much use for them either..

Chang:  im old too Master...that's not really a good excuse

Master Po:  don't get sidetracked chasing skirts Chang...by posting pictures of pretty girls on a website you're just reminding people of what they will never have...and that hurts them...you must get to the Fountain of Youth to rejuvenate yourself so that you may pursue your dream of becoming a  world table tennis champion and the  more impressive goal of becoming the worlds best all around athlete.    and again...ignore the anonymous naysaying troll cow dung cowards from the west and keep your eye on the prize....

Chang:  yes Master Po...i just have one more question before i go

Master Po: yes Chang

Chang:  what is the best way to deal with force?

Master Po:  as we prize peace and quiet above victory...there is a simple and preferred method

Chang: what is that sir?

Master Po:  run away...perceive the way of nature and no force of man can harm you.  Do not meet a wave head on..avoid it...you do not have to stop force...it is easier to redirect it..learn more ways to preserve rather than destroy...avoid rather than check...check rather than hurt....hurt rather than maim...maim rather than kill.  For all life is precious nor can any be replaced...

Master Po:  now you are ready..and here, before you go, take this little bag and don't open it unless there is an emergency

Chang:  thank you kind sir....

...

While Po and Chang were having their conversation, Missy got out of Bus 838 at DeKalb Av/S Portland Av in Brooklyn. She opened her umbrella.

"looks like rain" she muttered to herself trying not to drop her books as she opened her umbrella.
missy elliot just enrolled at LIU (Long Island University) at the Brooklyn Campus and spent close to two grand on first yr textbooks.
"no turning back now" she thought as she tried to grasp the magnitude of the moment.
"even a thousand mile journey begins with a single step" her mother used to say...

Just then a bus skidded sideways out of control and jammed all three against other cars, they all rapidly died from horrendous injuries

Chang died with his last thought being about becoming member of CNT... And since the last thought of our previous existence is the same as - and favourably conditions the first thought of our next existence, he was in due course reborn as Wang Ruiting.

For it is said in Milinda-panha: "If someone did akusala things for a hundred years but at the time of death was mindful for one moment of the Buddha, he would be reborn amongst the gods" (Mil. 80).

Here is a picture of the newborn:

wang ruiting quickly became the little darling of the chinese community while expectations and speculation arose as a result of being wang hao's little boy.    how soon should Le Tian, ruiting's nickname, start training everyone wondered.  ..and what grip and equipment should he use to be the best he can be?
