Hi all. For those who are not yet aware about this idea, I suggest you to have a look on the previous topic : http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=13723&PN=1 - http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=13723&PN=1

Kreanga Carbon Legal Modification

Tommyzai had a great idea about sending his modified KC to some forum members in order them to have a try. I've added few tips and he agreed.
The basic idea is to make this blade travel around the world and forum members. They will keep it one week or two, test it, dress it with different rubbers and then report back to the forum describing how it performed possibly with photos. I have no idea how long this journey will last but at the end the blade shall return to Tommyzai (possibly with no ding...). The blade will then become the legendary modified KC and will have gained an unestimable value.
I suggest every one interrested to register here giving their pseudo and home country. Maybe we should manage to keep it in one country/continent for a while in order to reduce the postage fee then move it from east to west or viceversa. Tommyzai, it's up to you, to the east or to the west. Since you are from USA, should we start by your country ?
Pls feel free to add any idea in order to improve this game.

I'm proud to be applicant n1 : jcdi , country : France.

So has anyone actually tried playing with the sanded KC yet? I suspect a slower, softer blade that won't be much special :S

the blade's already mutilated (from what it was originally). And Tommy should already know what risks he's running if he's willing to have it sent around the world.

I'd like to help on this endeavour of yours tommy, but sadly i'm a holder of the pen.

Oh my, "mutilated!" Well, it's been transformed, but it's not that bad. :-). I understand the risks, but I'm confident things will be okay. I think it will be fun . . . they'll be lots of signitures and this blade will circle the globe. Let's do our best to mail it to the far reaches . . . even New Jersey. LOL.

the sheer fact, that the blade has to be changed/modified to still be legal, is fair enough i think.
besides why not do something special. if everyone just did nothing, then nothing would happen...

I took a useless blade and turned it into something fun. That's good enough for me. I don't mind if it gets dings and dents and I don't think anyone will steal it. Hey, we're talking about us, right? I expect to get this blade back several months from now with lots of signitures on it, proud that I had this crazy idea. Plus, we'll be chatting about this world traveler along the way. It doesn't matter if it's good or bad . . . it's about the journey. It's money well spent.

Whoever accepts this blade or challenge should do the right thing and be responsible to, sort of, take reasonably good care of it when testing/playing it. I'dn't mind to be the last of the lasts to have a go @ it but I already have too many blades to test/play. I'll wait n see....

Five Rules:

1. Sign the blade with a permanent marker.
2. Take a pic to post.
3. Put your favorite rubbers on it and have fun for . . . how about a week?
4. Give us a mini review of your experience with the blade.
5. Do your best to safely get it to the next player. Arrange by PM or Email to get the correct current address and be sure they are in!

Important! You are NOT going to be held responsible if it gets some dings and dents, but if someone breaks the chain and this blade doesn't make a full circle back to me that would be sad. We have an opportunity to do a really cool thing. Let's do it!!! At the end of the journey I'd be happy to sell it cheaply to whoever wants it. If there are more than one we'll do some kind of lottery thing or something.

The list:

1. tommyzai/Santa Barbara, CA USA
2. hookshot/Secret Destination USA played+signed+reviewed
3. masterbuten/Boston MA USA now playing
4. GenomicsKnight/Boston MA USA next
5. wawaicetea123/PA USA
6. T h e N A M/Fort Worth, TX USA
8. micloi/UK
9. jcdi/France
10. der_RenTneR/Germany
11. master-pong/Europe
12. tiehwen/Canada
13. theman/Australia
14. LachlanTan+Coach/Australia
15. gekogark1212/Australia
16. seahorse/Australia
17. jimt/Boston area/USA
18. gene/Kansas, USA

I have an # - idea how to modified your kc,
1. Drill a hole in the # - handle (like wrb)
2. Put metal plate inside the hole (top part of the handle)
3. Put magnetic plate on the bottom part of the handle.
3. Fill it in with one metal bullet diameter 2mm

how it works?
the metal bullets # - will # - stick on the magnetic plate base. When you do the smash or topspin, the bullets will be release from the magnetic plate and strike the metal plate on the top and will make a nice sound. Is that legal though?

I've to be very careful not to use that Yasaka Super Speed glue on the "signed/initialled" face of the blade. That glue would totally disfigure all the signatures.
Can I use those "fine marker pen" or cd/dvd fine marker pen to sign. I hope those signatures stay.
We should also get some celebrities to sign it.

I am in the UK as well. I could get some pictures with the bat and the Oxford University Blues team in a few famous places in Oxford and have it signed.
I am pretty sure I could also get a player from the Cambridge Blues team to sign it so you could have a Varsity Match blade in your hands!

Let me know how this sounds.

As of this day + time I have finalized the first 17 (except two players: aeoliah + T h e N A M please let me/us know where you are so we can make arrangements to get it to you). Forgive me if your name was moved down on the list. I tried to organize it in some kind of logical path. From this point we'll have to add names onto the back of the list and accept the fact that the paddle will bounce from continent to continent.

Agreed: please avoid using any glues or chemicals that would mess up the signitures. Otherwise, have fun . . . use what you use . . . play how you play . . . tell us what you think!!

Let the games begin!!!!!

Thanks everyone. I feel honored to wear the "crazy" badge. Weeooooo. I had two ideas I wanted to try:

1. Cut off my ear and mail it to a random girl in a random country.
2. Modify the KC and mail it.

Well, I went with option #2 this time. :-).

Again, let me say . . . don't be afraid to use the blade. If it gets dinged it's okay . . . just don't lose it or this journey would end! BTW, when I get it back I will take it to China and get Ma Lin to sign it. A family member knows him.

Tiehwen, I still feel badly about my counter attack. You probably deserved a little spanking, but I went Rambo on you. I'm grateful we made up and became friends. :-). Last week I almost got a plane ticket to Sweden to have a word with some poor unfortunate soul, who dared to critisize the way I sell on the Forum. LOL. Tiehwen,
if you must let your friends try your blade, the first thing to do is to inform them about the value of the blade to you, so at least they will be careful when using the blade.

@Tzai. Where the Hxll r u, Ur playground, the forum is up n so u should also wake up...!

Scooping t/t ball off the floor w/ur combo is NOT an elegant move @ all for any t/t player. This kinda move actually belongs to badminton player. An experienced badminton player normally use the "scooping" method to pick up "birdy/shuttercock" off the floor by postioning the racket head @ almost VERTICAL angle @/near the tip of the shuttecock. I'm sure u guys have seen them.
Scoopig t/t ball OFF the floor is so so plain STUPID!

Well, I didn't get the blade in time for the tourney but have used it for 3 days since.
It is FAST! Faster than my Galexy W-1 and two other carbons I have.
First thing I did was the "bounce the ball on the bare blade test". I could tell right away that this was a speed demon. However,,, I felt a huge difference from the center to the edge. The sweet spot is small compared to other blades.
I dressed it with Energy GP and Screw Soft LP on 1m sponge. Real nice for counter looping, loop drives and smashes. I don't think it was the speed as I am used to fast setups, but it sprayed shots. I think it had to do with the small sweet spot. My partner had the same reaction. Too fast for much touch on pushes. Punch blocks were good.  Chopping? Wrong blade.
Next I put $5 Lightning and Dr Evil on. More controlable and the spraying was not as bad. Even with the slower rubber, it still would make bullets when you put the power to it.
The Dr Evil (OX) had super spin reversal and  still behaved like Evil.  Slow enough to make real short drop shots. Flat hits with the Evil left vapour trails.
I don't think the small sweet spot is caused by the sealing job as Tommy and I have probably done over 50 blades that way and I have not seen it affect that. I have never used a KC either though so I can't compare to another blade.
The blade is a rocket and for me to use it, I would have to put a slower rubber on than I use.
The finish is "nice". Good job, Tommy. Glue sheets will not pull anything off this blade. Another thing, the glue sheet stays on the rubber when you peal so you can just stick it on the next blade.
The blade has TWO signatures. Room for many more. It is on the way to the next person. Take care of it guys. This thing has a long way to go!!! Hopefully around the world a couple times.Thumbs%20Up

Tommy, did you specify how big the signature should be ? It has to be small, otherwise there will be no space for the next person to sign.

My signature and Tommys should give a good idea for the size of the sig. Please try to keep it similar and we have room for LOTS!!!Smile

hi all!

i should be able to send the kc to GenomicsKnigh by the end of the week. i only get to play on weekends and i wasn't able to try it on friday because of really pressing schoolwork deadlines T_T  i am really sorry for the delay this might have caused

the kc had a really nice finish though, never saw such a shiny surface on a sealed blade. but then again, i never really get to see that many sealed blades.. however the sleek sealing makes me wonder what effects it might have had on the blade's properties

as suggested by hookshot, i tried to bounce the ball on the bare blade and i found exactly the same thing: a huge difference from the center to the edge.  bouncing the ball on the blade alone can tell that it really is a fast blade; however the ball dies almost instantly once you stray from the small sweet spot

again, sorry for the delay; i will post more reviews and pictures when i have completed my evaluation

thanks!!

So where are the new and improved pics, guys?

I guess I missed my chance to get in the queue at a proper time seeing as how the blade is leaving my Boston neighborhood... well, till next time then.

masterbuten: please play with the KC before sending. We can wait a few more days.
The Nam: You're #6 and we're on #3. You should have it within a month. Are you okay with shipping to UK? I had to make some adjustments for an injured member.
Jim T: I'll add you to the list for the return to the USA.
Size of Sig: Use Hookshot's example as a rough guide.

Message from Tommyzai;
"Although I am on extended vacation from this Forum, I will stay connected to my Kreanga buddies and enjoy the extraordinary journey with you all. It is my hope I will get the blade back months from now, in time for me to bring to China whereby I will have at least one of the top ten players in the world sign the legendary KC. I am very proud of us all for doing this. I hope you are enjoying the journey as much as me. If you like to get in touch with me, please PM me. I can give you my personel E-Mail via PM. Please continue to coordinate with the next on the list amd remember to enjoy playing, sign it, take a pic with it and review.
     Bon Voyage!!

It will be very cool if this blade is signed by one of top 10 world class players.  Thumbs%20Up

I just got the blade yesterday from masterbuten and I will glue it up and try it for next few days.  So it looks like wawaicetea123 is next stop in the queue.  wawaicetea123, can you PM me your mailing address so I can send the blade your way sometime next week?

It looks wawaicetea123 is not interested in trying out Tommy's modified KC, as I haven't heard back from him.  Therefore I will pass it on to the next person on the list which is T h e N A M, so we can keep the ball rolling.

Tommy,

any chance you will at some point start another quest with some other good OFF+ blade? I've been dying to try some but they are all so darn expensive... You could do a quick one, for the US-48 only, for example... just an idea.

Jim, if the KC journey is successful I would definitely consider letting an Acoustic, Violin, Schlager, or Gergely-21 go for a ride!!!

Didn't hear anything from wawaicetea123, so the blade will go to T h e N A M now.  I am planning to mail it out first thing Monday morning.  I will put up the pictures and my review next week.  Still trying to digest all that food I ate...

VERY IMPORTANT:
-----------------------
It looks like I will not get the blade before I go to LA on the 8th of Dec so I can only see 3 possible options:

1. I get the blade 1st as soon as it comes to the UK (if that's ok with Firetack)
2. I get the blade sent to LA by T h e N A M if he is done close to the 6th of Dec
3. I do not test the blade at all if 1 and 2 are not possible

Please let me know.

two words:  too fast!

after playing the kc for a couple of hours with globe999 (nat'l with blue sponge) on my fh and tg3 on my bh (both unglued), i found out that it was way too fast for me.

there was no such thing as a controlled loop and all my strokes had to be parallel to the table else they would all completely miss the table.

(btw, i am currently using a tbs with the same rubbers and with no speed glue, only best test rubber cement)

adjusting to the kc during drills was not a big problem but playing a game was a different story - a humiliating one in which i lost in straight sets Cry

(i avenged myself with the tbs the following week 5sets-0 Sleepy)

another thing i noticed with the kc is that whenever i miss its small sweet spot, the ball moves very very weirdly, something i've never seen in my tbs or other previous blades (bty sardius, joola kool)

has anyone else noticed this?  well, i've never tried a kc or a modified blade for that matter so i won't know whether the kc itself or the sanding/resealing may have caused this effect

anyway, here are a couple of pictures i took of the kc:

solo shot

and with boston's famous giant citgo sign

Thanks The Nam!
Actually, I don't usually overseal as much as I did with the KC, but I felt I had to. After I sanded off that silver goo I found the wood to be really, really soft . . . like I could dent it with my finger nail very easily. So, I went wild with the Varathane and polishing in between coats. Enjoy! I hope it plays well for you. My guess is this KC will need softer rubbers to offset the super fastness of it. :-). Time to pack for Vegas. It's almost time to defend some honor by playing pingpongmadman!

BTW . . . do you know anyone selling or trading a jpen Darker?
