Looks like Japan is sending out the big guns! Not surprising of course... after all, this is on their home soil.

Yeap, agreed. I feel quite sad that Feng Tianwei and Wang Yue Gu has been cancelled from this tournament. CryCryCry

Where are the Chinese players?

The Korean & Japanese are sending their main players but China did not even send their second echelon players.

both Timo and Samsonov keep on skipping tournaments. Perhaps Timo is still not at 100% but Vladi is right there in the neighborhood and he still wouldn't play Japan Open... strange.

No Kreanga, Maze, Persson, Primorac, Suss.. too bad

I just know Feng Tianwei withdrawn from the tournament because she needs to compete in the CTTSL. But for Wang Yue Gu, I still don't know why she withdrawn from both the China and Japan Open.

The players also have obligations in their leagues, and sometimes they just need a break... Ryu had surgery on his ankle, I think. Boll is just back from injury and had to play in the German league finals, which conflicted with the China Open; and what's the point for him to fly over just for the Japan Open if the Chinese aren't there? For Ovtcharov on the other hand, that's an opportunity to get some bonus points and maybe even a ProTour win.

I'm surprised at Samsonov though since he's in Asia already and the Spanish league should be over.

Some other non-Chinese Asians also have to play Superleague: Kim Kyung Ah, Tie Yana, Cheung Yuk...

i, too, am curious about what's going on with vladi.  he pulled out of the belarus open a few weeks back, which, on paper at least, should have been an easy win and an easy chance to pick up bonus points.

he goes and plays the china vs. the world event and then doesn't play the japan open, where, again, he would be the top seed and would have a good chance to pick up bonus points.

so, where is he going to play next--he's gonna go all the way to africa to play the MOROCCAN OPEN, which is next month.  and there he will be one of only 2 players in the top-100!!

it just doesn't add up in my book...

That's nice! Wally, if you are reading this - did you need USATT to sign off on this? how does that work? also, dude, just out of curiosity - what is the tournament fee? I presume you were in Japan on your own, so tickets/hotel that's on you anyways...

FTW!

Could be he is still not feeling 100% in terms of equipment. Also he is supposed to move again, to play for a Russian club from now on, he is leaving Cajagranada. Although I have no idea where his family actually lives... I doubt that they move across Europe all the time...

well, when he was playing for charleroi, they lived there. and i think a heard that, at least at one time, they were living in england.

anyhow, i, too, can't imagine they would have moved to spain in the past year and now to russia (or a hop, skip and a jump away to belarus).

actually, he may have pulled out of the belarus open to play the MASTERS event (higher prize money?) in england which was around the same time.  surprisingly so, i don't recall seeing any mention of that event here on the forum.  he (and persson) played some great matches with england's paul drinkhall, who has really improved in the past year.  there are a few vids from the event posted on youtube.

Wally and Keini lost their doubles match, 2-3 against a Japanese pair.

Isn't Wally sponsored by Rockstar? And I do think that USATT has to authorize his entry, but if no other US players are interested that doesn't seem to be a problem.

Kenta almost lost to world # 348 (19-17 in the final game!). The adjustment from World All-Stars to ProTour qualifying must be tough...

y'know, i was just looking at the rankings and it looks to me like, if ovtcharov can somehow win this event and beat joo in the process, he'll end up in the top-10 next month.  now that would be huge for german TT--2 germans in the top-10!  now when was the last time that happened??

Two defensive players, eh? This might take a while. Tongue

Expedite is a good system for these cases, I like it.

This glue ban had got to be frustrating for the pro players who spent almost all of their career in the glue era.  I just watched the Oh Sang Eun/Mizutani match and I have never hear Oh actually grunt and put so much effort into shots until this match.

The top players are still the top players. Think about the 2005 World Championships and all the second round upsets.....ie...in the so called glue era. Ryu lost to Danny Heister......Chuan lost to a very young Mizutani, Schlager lost to He Zhi Wen.....a very young Bastain Steger beat Saive and we all know about Wang Hao and Hao Shuai losing to Michael Maze in later rounds. People want to act like the top players NEVER lost during the glue era. All of the sudden, Oh Sang Eun is using more effort and energy to play table tennis? I doubt it. He just literally walked right over Yoshida 4-0.......while puting so much effort into his shots.....lol.

Schlager didn't have Gardos around this time, that's why...

Seriously, Baum seems to be having his international breakthrough finally (he was world junior champ a few years ago). He'll be top 50 after this tournament, good for him.

Oh looked awfully strong and should win the final.

Well, I have to say that I'm really sad that Schlager lost but he didn't play at his top form, I'm really disappointed when I see Schlager playing a slow game, not aggressive anymore, no more reverse pendulum, no more tricky serves ( or still but very little ).How can you win any title with this performance, Schlager ?

quoting theman

"not worried about patrick baum, hes yet to break the top 100, and hes around the same age as dima?
that win in 05 worlds junior, but to make that step from junior to senior competition, is BIG,

but dima took that step VERY WELL, consistent quarter and semi final appearnaces in pro tour events,

but baum? i dunno"

"other than timo sammy who were obvioulsy great juniors in their time, dima is like the next young gun in the future.

What about PATRICK BAUM? 05 world junior champ, yet what happened to him? hes still on the same level and hasnt progressed at all..."

"i dont think patrick baum will get far imo. that win in 05 junior worlds was great, i thought he would go far, but three yrs into the senior game, hes yet to break the top 100"

"forget suss or patirck baum, they never really made it at international level.

steger is a very gơd stable player, at least for team events."

"patrick Baum! so random, hes never made it ever in the senior rankings."

"they dont have a very gơd junior program to replace the swedish gods.

No one really cares about U21. Seriously, who even watches it? It's sort of like the "hey, you're not really good enough to do well with the real players, so you play in U21". This is not the case with Yu Meng Yu, as she is top 40, but I don't understand why she continues to play in it. None of the Chinese at younger ages even play in it because it's a joke!

I saw the same thing. It seemed like he could pretty much do anything to Kaii's serves, he made many more errors on Baum's serves in the finals.

yeah, that's right, oh had no problem with yoshida's serve or loop or anything--there was really nothing yoshida could do that oh didn't have an answer for.

but he did have much more of a problem reading baum's serve.  but i wonder though how much of that was due to baum hiding the ball.

i was shocked that the ump waited all the way to the 5th set to fault him, cuz most of his serves are clearly hidden!!

also, i noticed in the baum-schlager match, schlager served legally in the first set, but he also had problems with baum's serve, so, i think,  instead of complaining, he just started hiding his serves, too, from the 2nd set on. maybe he was thinking, "well, if he can get away with it, i can too."  and he (they) did...

baum needs to be faulted more often to get a higher percentage of legal serves out of him.

also, if you listen closely after the fault, you can hear coach prause yelling at the ump something like, "you should give him a warning first!!"  note that he didn't say, "that serve was perfectly legal."  nor did baum...

anyhow, i agree with him, and this is one of the things the umps are doing that i don't like, y'know, just faulting somebody without a warning.  i think they should warn the player first and explain what he's doing wrong so he won't make the same "mistake" again.

As long as you are uploading to MegaUpload, why split? Connection problems?

I confirm - that add-on doesn't work with itTV.

TubeHunter Ultra is rather finicky, and sometimes I have to restart it to make it download the next video clip from itTV but that's not a huge issue...

Guys, why don't you do it yourselves? Get Replay Media Catcher or TubeHunter Ultra and run it.

It is really slow, that's why I can only get about one or two matches a day - you need to get it, then rename it, then upload it to MegaUpload.

If all of you guys will just stand around and say "please someone give us links to download" then nothing will happen. Next time when IceObsession or myself are not around (on vacation or busy), will you simply resign yourselves to not getting the videos?

C'mon! If there are many of us, we can do it faster and better!
