Yes,I still didn't know what happen during the last set.Pota had so large advantage,leading 7-2 and 10-5，then lose to Xu jie 10-12.I think her teammates and coach would feel so frustrated to see that.Maybe it just because this is table tennis,anything could happen. -------------

That was a major meltdown for both Pota and the Hungarian coach. Pota lost 7 straight match points - I've never seen a choke like that before. At 10-8 the coach started yelling out loud something that sounded like coaching - that's a major rule violation if I've ever seen one. Looks like Jie Xu started complaining about it, but I didn't see any warnings or yellow cards given. yeah that was a monumental choke by Pota, but Poland got gifted that win, so many edge/net balls at the end, I would be pissed too but the whole Hungarian team has a bad temper, Toth got yellow carded in her match against Li Qian also |

mattenet won cuz ovtcharov got injured so bad he couldnt move much, and mattenet still managed to "let" ovtcharov take 2 sets... so not much credit to his improvements and blade in that match. |

The point to 10-8 was a controversial edge/side ball, that's why the coach protested. Didn't have to do anything with illegal coaching. And on the very next point Jie Xu got another edge... |

Mattenet interests me. Go and search videos of him on youtube... even when he plays the chinese: He brings this weird, negative competitive energy every time he plays. So no matter how much better on paper someone is compared to him, it seems like he's always able to give a lot of trouble. Plus, he hits really hard. He brings out the primal competitive nature and has that attitude of "I can beat anyone" which if you're a lot better than him is somehow able to get to you a bit no matter how cool and collected you usually are.
Annoying on one hand, but in a weird way admirable

I do not think that during the game you should take into account your opponent's injuries - you can commiserate and feel for t he guy but you came to win and not to patronize the guy or to give him presents. The celebrations however are another thing... Unfortunately, therein lies the problem - if your loops are not powerful enough (like top men's are) then the pick-hitter will usually prevail against loopster. That's why current top women play a lot of very flat game - fast drives, counterdrives, punch-blocks, almost no loops. As soon as you loop and your loop is not a fast killer, you give your opponent a split-second to regroup and then she takes over the initiative. What is it about men that they can have more power than the women? Let's be honest here - ping pong isn't tennis or other "power sports", where the factor of testosterone/muscle-building is really apparent. I mean, a lot of the pro men look pretty scrawny to me...very scrawny sometimes. Very, very scrawny. Did I mention scrawny? |

Li Jie looks like 15 years younger with that haircut... Judging from her current photo on ITTF site, I thought she was like...50. Then looking at more of her pictures, it appears she ages and rejuvenates and ages again very drastically all the time |

Well it's a reflex sport, the faster reflexes required, the less bulky the people are going to be. Football vs baseball vs basketball, or just positions in baseball, shortstops are small quick guys, first baseman lumbers around and hits homeruns. I don't think it has anything to do with muscles really, tiny Asian guys are perfectly capable of loopin the crap out of the ball just as hard as big American man, if not more so because of the technique, whole body looping, fluidity, women just don't look fluid in their loops, it's stiff, disjointed, even the good ones when they go to loop, like they aren't drilled long enough in just looping.

Three Germans in the semi's and Dima isnt one of them, due to injury I assume. What a great effort from the Germans. Something is wrong with that picture, where are the other top Europeans from the other countries at? And I dont mean Saive, Schlager and Samsonov either. We need the new young talent to show up and give the rest of the world hope in our beloved sport. That was the worst I have ever seen Samsonov play. Except for the last game, all other games he lost he had sizable lead toward the end and each time he played tentative and missed relatively easy shots. He should've won the match 4-0 and ended up losing it 3-4. |

He played well and had all the tools. He played a bit too conservative after first set or maybe he was handcuffed by Boll. Are the Pros really boosting as is the general thought here? I just watched the Schlager/Saive match and the strokes did not look as if they were coming from boosted bats at all. I think the strokes looked more like drives rather than very spinny drive loops that come with glued bats. Look at how easily these 'old' players were moving to and retrieving hard hit shots. I dunno, what do you think?

I have a lousy internet connection (max 1.5 Mb) being stuck out in the sticks, but the Laola stream has been the best I've experienced for TT-yes, it does drop, but only about once a minute. The ITTV stream freezes every three seconds for me (just as someone serves, inevitably).
