Still waiting for confirmation from those top players, but seem difficult this year due to the asian games is conflicting (too close) with NA teams.

Question

The Elite team is reserved for the top players that we are inviting from China. I want the Elite team at least contain 1-2 world top 50 level players. Unfortunately,  we didn't plan early enough and are going to miss the Elite team this year. None of those good players we tried to get are available at that time. For sure we will plan earlier next year and bring a strong Elite team to 2011 NA Teams.

We have 9 teams as shown in above representing MyTT in 2010 NA Teams. Without the Elite team, they will play their best and show what they have got for MyTT. Let's give some applause and cheer for them!

Alex

I think it's best if you simply emailed him

Most likely MyTT.Com will have a booth or a table set up to sell their gear...

On behalf of the MyTT.net Superstars, I would like to express my appreciation from MyTT.net for being a partial sponsor to our team and providing us with beautiful TT gear.

Our first day during the preliminaries group 13 fared OK as we easily beat the two teams below us and losing to the two upper teams. The point total for the preliminaries groups were from 5304 to 6154 with us right at 5702.

We ended up being placed in Division 7A out of about 14, middle of the pack in the range of 5700 to 6100 point teams. We started off on a slow start as we narrowly lost to the team right above us
4-5 in a full 9 matches ending in a 11-9 in the fifth in their favor. However, the rest of the day was a different story as all of the team members stepped up their game and with their mental toughness were able to squeeze out tight 5 game matches to pull the Superstars back into contention with a 4-1 overall teams record. That day we beat the top three teams, lost 4-5 to the one above us and beat the team that was two below. Sunday we continued to plow through and beat the last two teams below us for a 5-0 and 5-1. With the winning record of 6-1, we headed into the final against an extremely powerful team that seem to be quite underrated (Bergman Stadium). Unfortunately, they were too much for us as they defeated us 2-5.

It has been about two years since I have been to Baltimore teams and can honestly say that it was one of the best and most fun. I highly recommend this tourney as you get to play tons of matches as you work with your fellow team to go against the world! I had a lot of fun and will be sending a pic soon showing us with the newly acquired hardware, we hope that we made mytt.net proud...

Thanks guys!!

The members of MyTT.net Hurricanes extend an incredibly grateful thank you to Alex Li, Dan and all other staff at MyTableTennis.net.

ttkenny is absolutely correct - the gear is FANSTASTIC! Was really proud of wearing the attire the whole tournament. Made us look more than merely amateurs - and gave extra energy ( perhaps I'm speaking of myself ), but yes, it felt great to wear it - because sooo many people were recognized myTableTennis sponsored players out of the croud, plus we could recognize other members and stop by to meet and greet!

I played with JimT and let me tell you it was a much better experience than I've ever had in a team. On Friday we were in Preliminary Group 10 and finished the day with 2-2 against other teams. We lost to one team below us in the 8th game, but recovered winning 8th game against the team above us. Granted we also took the two up team to 7th game, we broke some tie breaks and advanced to higher division.

We ended up in Division 7B. Saturday was a bit slower for most of players on MyTT Hurricanes, except for JimT, he was our hero that day - pulling out game after game in a very surprising fashion - with his push/chop game, and fantastic retrieval and defense, plus an occasional backhand smash and forehand banana loop, we closed the day with 3-2. Sunday was the best yet, we won both of our matches, but unfortunately we ended up 3rd - behind the Berg Stadium team that MyTT.net Superstars had to face in the finals. We had an excellent chance of coming up to the finals - a bit different order of matches and we would have pulled through... but then on the other hand, our result is still very good - since we were the second team from the bottom in the division.

Thanks again, MyTT.net!

Many thanks to Alex Li and MyTT.Net for sponsorship and TT gear. I wore the team jacket throughout the tournament and even my son got one from one of our team members! He was thrilled.

My impressions from the tournament are mixed. On one hand I am happy to have met a lot of interesting players and really glad I played with my team members - they are all awesome players and were very tough when it counted (even when sometimes Lady Luck was pulling against us).

On the other hand, I didn't like the playing conditions much

a) I guess for a lot of players that doesn't make a difference but for me waking up at 7 am every day and starting to play at 9 am is a real bummer. Two of the three matches I lost in the tourney were against the team we met in the first (9 am) tie, one being the first first match of the tie. My overall feeling was that if I was awake then my record would be way better... but that's just sour grapes, I know... Cry

b) air was awful. Extremely dry, and A/C was working so strangely that the ball was often floating off the table when it was just impossible for it to behave so. The fast flat shots or kill loops were OK but slow pushes or chops sometimes felt completely wrong

c) on approximately 25% of the tables lighting was really just bad. On all the tables lighting hit you in the eye when you raised your head during high toss serve or during lobbing. That's just sad - this is the largest TT tournament in the USA and such an important thing is messed up.

d) all the tables were new, and unplayed. As a result bounce was hard, spin off the table was higher than we all are used too (played, older tables decrease the spin after the bounce a little bit) so for instance, blocking the spinny loop required a lot (A LOT!) of adjustment

e) finally, cement floors... well, that's the smallest of the problems. However they were slippery, there were a lot of falls, and they are hard on the knees. Not to mention they add a bit to the overall hardness of the bounce.

And I was so right to not play on a 3-person team! OMG... I cannot imagine what would have happened to me if I did. I would probably be reporting to you from grave right now.

I played 19 matches (one didn't get into the records as our team unfortunately lost the match about 30 seconds before it was finished) plus a couple of training matches... and alas, that is hard for a not-extremely-fit 45-yr old guy.

Our last tie (3rd day) my leg muscles started to hurt so much, and some of them were cramping, that I had to sit that one out - although I must say that my very capable teammates have beaten that team without my help (except for my cheering on the sidelines).

So... I am not sure if I want to play there again. It seems I will not be playing next year anyway (family matters) but in 2 years... who knows?

I have some pics but I need to copy them to computer, convert them, clean them up etc. That stuff will be posted later... together with some other things.

JimT, I think you would have liked playing with our team as a part timer as you would play about 12 matches or so... maybe we might do it a couple yrs from now... who knows... my body is feeling the soreness of about 30 matches but overall doable. had lots of fun and it is really important to wet the shoes or you will slip and get hurt!

Well, 12 matches would be probably not enough for me - I mean it doesn't seem worth it to spend around 800 dollars and play the number of matches that is barely higher than I get to play at a small local tournament.

You played 30? wow... good god... but then again, Kenny you are really fit and much younger than poor old me Cry

How exactly did you guys do in the Div 7 Final against Berg Stadium? any of you beat JP? did you guys beat Mark or Fadi?

True about the expenses but those other members were local or drove and paid proportionately the amount expected to play.

We only went 2-5 vs Bergman with my wins against Mark and Fadi. I narrowly beat Fadi in a 5th game comeback down about 3-4 match points. Was able to beat Mark fairly easily after I figured out his game 3-0. I really screwed up against JP as I was up 1-0 and had him 9-5 in the second game but then I lost momentum and couldn't recover to lose that one 1-3.

On behalf of myTT.net-rocket team, we would like to thank Alex Li and his staff members in supporting our kids to compete at NATT Baltimore team tournament. The uniform and shirts were so cool with real professional looking style. All three kids loved to wear them at all time and showed off to their friends every where at court. MyTT.net were so generous, not only they have paid $200 for the team registration but even bought each kid with a tournament joola shirt as well. The kids were so proud to be a part of MyTT teams and they have had the best of time of their life in playing a tournament.

Because of lack of experience, they did not advance up one division and ended up playing division 6A seeded number 5 position out of 8 teams. Surprisely, they managed to beat all the top seeded teams above them (except number 3 seeded Quebet 3 team, lost in game 9) but lost to a way under-rated bottom Mexico team and at the end they went on won the division.

Anyway, regardless the results of competition, they all have learned something and had a lot of fun to doing it together as a team. Hopefully next year we can do it again and they will play division 3.

JP is very very tough and tricky. I am surprised that Mark was such a big problem for you guys - you certainly looked like you would do well against him and his Anti style. Probably element of surprise was on his side - he is tough to adjust to, especially for offensive players around his level.

How did you like the conditions? I mean tables, air, bounce, floors, schedule? (basically all the stuff that gave me such a headache Cry)

PJimT, I beat Mark 3-0 and Fadi 3-2, lost to JP 1-3. They were too tough. I was okay with the schedule and the conditions. The lighting is even but dimmer. Just need to wet the shoes often.

Notice that another MyTT.Net team made it to the finals of their division (Epic in Div 5, from Rhode Island club, I actually know these guys pretty well)... I don't know how they managed to lose 5-0 in the final (Yukang alone should have gotten them at least one point).

My team beat EPIC in the finals of Div. 5. The EPIC team had 2 injured players and only played with Steve Hopkins and Xue Di. I did play both of them and won both matches 3:0.. Xue Di has one effective game and good serves.. He took me to deuce every game.. Steve's shoulder seemed to hurt and he wasn't able to give me a fight..

Our Team really didn't belong in Div. 5.(Team average of 2250). We made a bad decision on day 1 not to play the strongest team against the Div. 4 and 5 teams and lost both matches. Well, our 2300 player also lost 4 matches that he shouldn't have lost.. He had a tough time getting used to the playing conditions (tables and balls). We were originally seeded #1 of Div. 3 and we ended up playing Div 5.. We never played the strongest team against any of the opponents (except for the final) and we cruised to the finals without trying hard..
Our top 3 players only lost a total of 3 matches in the division (all 3 of us combined.. I lost 2, Lattiosh lost 1 and Jeerapaet lost zero)

Oh, I had no idea Yukang got injured. I knew that Witold and Xue Di were not feeling that great but they were still playing the last time I saw them.

Olivier, I saw you there but you were busy so I decided to come over and introduce myself later. But then of course I had other stuff to do... you know... matches... Wink, and I forgot.

As for the playing conditions - I can fully relate to that. As I said above, in none of the 20 matches that I played I was even near my full playing strength. Mostly due to early morning schedule, hard table bounce, airflow etc.

At least you guys made the best of it and won the division. Good for you!

I wish that I could've played Yukang... I could've used the rating points Wink

I think that a year or 2 ago, I would've defaulted the rest of my matches after dropping 2 divisions because I would've been afraid to lose rating points.. I went into the event so confident that I was certain that I would do really well and I did.. My rating should stay about the same.. My confidence showed at the club too. I've been unbeaten at the clubs that I play for 3 consecutive visits now.. Florida State Closed is coming up this weekend and I hope to make at least 2nd or 3rd place..

The conditions at the event were very favorable for my game.. I felt good from the first match to the last..

I can imagine that for the push-blocking style the conditions were indeed OK. Also the hard-hitting people were quite OK with their shots. However, a lot of long loops and long pushes just went on floating off the table - sometimes I would be left standing with my jaw dropped on the floor and going "what the **** just happened?" And other people commented on that as well.

It's great to have an excuse, isn't it? I mean I did OK in terms of formal results, but there were two very close (5 sets) lost matches where I feel that in my normal state I would not have even allowed the other guy to take me to 5 sets... and generally I am pretty unhappy with my condition there. I am not a morning person, and I do not like brand-new hard bouncing tables. There, I said it. Confused

Is it #29 now? I deleted one of the pics a few minutes ago.

At some moments I just went around the hall snapping random pictures...

The conditions are usually worst right in front of the JOOLA booth, the tables just behind  the red carpet courts. The farther you are away from those, the better the conditions were. Our top player lost matches that he usually wouldn't lose. I knew that he had problems with the conditions when I beat him 3:0 in our training match. He usually beats me 3:1 or 3:2 and I only rarely can win against him, especially not 3:0.. He was looping long many times. He complained about the ball "stopping" etc. etc. Others reported similar experiences.

As Olivier said, we had only two players dress up for that match - both Yukang and I couldn't play in the final due to injuries.

BTW, Yukang had a great tournament, he lost only 2 out of ~30 matches during the entire tournament ... one of them against a Division 2 player on Friday (he beat the other two players) and one on Sunday afternoon, when he could barely move his right arm.

That sucks. I saw that you were injured but I had no idea Yukang got injured as well. What happened to him?

I don't believe it was anything serious - it appeared to me that he played too many matches and simply "overused" his shoulder/arm.

Yukang was there and they put him on the sheet but he ended up defaulting his matches as he didn't feel good enough to play.. I still hope to get to play him one day!

Thanks everyone for participating and playing for MyTableTennis.NET teams! It was nice to see everyone in person in the tournament, even though we didn't have much time to chat as everyone is busy playing most of the time.

As for our team - MyTableTennis.NET Masters, we did great on the first day. We were seeded in Division 1 and we beat both Div 2 and Div 3 teams at 5:0, so we stayed in Division 1 for the rest of the days.

On the second day, 20 teams from Division 1 were divided into 4 groups with 5 teams in each group. Our strongest player Robert Roberts had to drop all matches due to his back injuries. The rest of us did our best and we beat 2 teams (Zhiyu Beijing Team 2 and Lily Yip TTC 5) and lost to 2 teams (NYAC/NYTTC 1 and the Korean Team 2). So we were the 3rd place in our group and advanced to 9th - 12th place in the finals in Division 1.

On the third day, 4 teams were to play in the finals of 9th -12th place in Division 1. Most of our players were either injured or too tired. We first played against Zhiyu Beijing Team 1 and we lost in 0:5. Then we decided to drop all the rest matches because none of us felt well. I guess we maybe ended as the 11th place because one other team didn't show up at all.

In summary it was a great tournament regardless the venue condition is not that great. We enjoyed the games and friendships and will do it again next year. And we will prepare earlier next year and bring a stronger ever Elite team. Looking forward to seeing everyone again soon.

Alex

PS. Some photos will be posted later.

My impressions were worst in the opposite corner - you haven't played there cause you were in a different division but lighting there on the far side was just awful. Table 71 (if I recall  the number correctly) was so bad in that regard that I wish NATT simply closed it down or moved it somewhere else... to the lobby... I dunno.

Looping long is exactly the thing that happened to me.

Also blocking was going really bad for me - because the tables are so frigging new and hard - the ball comes off the table without losing any spin/speed at all, so my BH blocks went long and high so many times that at some point I just stopped blocking. Literally, no kidding, I stopped blocking on BH. Instead I chopped or chop-blocked or push-blocked when I could, or just stepped off the table and started to retrieve the ball or weakly loop it.

I didn't play over at that side. I liked the conditions best around table 38 where we played our last matches..

You will need to join a team, you will need a visa, and a bunch of money to travel - if that all is not a problem, then of course you should come and play.

How did you guys do, and what were your impressions about the tournament?

It would be nice to hear from other MyTT sponsored teams with their results and impressions. And pictures/videos, perhaps?
