At the same time, Chinese boys had no problem with Japan (including Niwa Koki, who lost to Wu Jiaji in 5 sets) in the final. 3-0 for China.

Its a great place for talent spotting, and good for World competion to see the Japanese kids doing so well, unfortunatly NZ came last in both groups, we could have sent a better team but sometimes when events are on the other side of the World its more who can afford the trip.
The thing about the Chinese is we never know who else they have in storage lol

Boy this boy Zhou Yu from China has the best backhand (away from the table loop) I have ever seen in someone so young, even compared to thier top players.
Mind you that from the highlights from the vid provided by SoWhySoSerious (many thanks mate)
I can imagine those to boys fighting it out the World champs in a few years

Umm I beg to differ about Wu JJ. Koki Niwa totally choked on the match, he had 4 match points. Meanwhile Wu JJ really disappointed me: I was looking to see what the future of penhold is, and I saw it is a weak backhand and inconsistent attempts at looping far from the table. I am no friend of any shakehand style, but Koki Niwa looked umpteen times more in control to me, taking less risk and winning points with more placement and less effort. Maybe I just liked his performance better because Wu JJ started Tchoing really offensively once he leveled the score.

Zhou Yu
But I think he is physically so much stronger and bigger than Yoshida Masaki, and that take the edge, his backhand has more power that Yoshida's forehand.

+1 i know wu was really into it but that type of choing esp the last one, as if to say 'in your face,' is not in the spirit of fair play. its bothersome and annoying.

China & Japan are rivals, stop being a pussy about it, this is why our sport is laughed at. Spirit of fair play and nice & fun, but I am sorry rivalries gets attention. Even LGL said that what Chen Qi did by kicking the chair, TT needs. We need personalities, not dudes with pussies and chicks with dicks that looks like dudes. Sorry but this is why our sport is not popular.

When ranked by the number of fans TT is #6 on one of the latest lists , and #2 individual sport (after Tennis).
However when ranked by number of people actually playing the game, Table tennis is #1 individual sport.

Sorry, but did you guys (rodewan and chair) watch the whole match of 35 minutes between Wu vs Niwa?
I don't like excessive Cho-ing either, but if you watch the entire match, the japanese teammates are the one cho-ing everytime niwa made a point or when wu made a mistake.
I think Wu did it just to get even, he was pretty quiet for the first 24 minutes of the game.
And he did the last, loudest cho-ing to the japanese team!

why is Ishikawa still playing in these junior tournaments? She even plays the minor ones, she might be Japan's number 2 on the national team, these tournaments are pointless for someone of her calibre.

She's pretty much the best or almost the best that Japan's got, and Japan doesn't have many great women in the lineup that are up and coming, at least not from what I see. She will be their primary player for many years to come, in my opinion.

Wow boy's doubles is Japan vs France! This is really hyperboles for me, because I had been impressed when Gauzy, then still 15, took a set from Samsonov. But then Niwa is a year younger, and he already almost beat Ryu Seung Min.. After 1 game, the Japanese coach is laughing, and the Japanese players look better balanced at the table..

Cao Lisi is not a junior anymore (born Nov 19, 1991). Wu Yang is the only top Chinese girl who's not playing at these worlds.
U-18 ranking before the worlds: 1 Wu Yang 2 Ishikawa 3 Zhu Yuling 4 Cheng I-Ching TPE 5 Kang Mi Soon KOR 6 Gu Yuting 7 Yi Fangxian 8 Chen Meng 9 Zhao Yan
China played with Zhu, Gu, Yi, and Zhao - and lost to Japan in the team final.

This has undoubtedly been covered elsewhere , but Can someone write the character for "Tcho"? Because I have no clue what Song HongYuan is saying, like "Tcho", then "出“ . The only thing I ever got was Ma Lin will yell 对 , or 才来 maybe sometimes. But Tcho remains a mystery to me. And being a prude, I can't imagine that Song HongYuan in the starry shirt would be speaking anything but mandarin..?

I believe Ishikawa Kasumi has a bright future but the rest of her mates don't. I am serious when I say she is among Japan's finest. The others are just cannon fodder. All you have to do is watch her game against Feng Tianwei to see that she is no ordinary scrub.

I have to thank you for this. Ma Lin's yell 对 was a mystery to me for a long time, I always heard something like "got it!", but now finally we have translation.

I don't think that's right. The Chinese aren't yelling "qiu", they're yelling "cho". Even though one does say "hao qiu" after a good point, it's considered very odd/rude to say it after your own point. It also doesn't make sense to yell "ball" after a point (equivalent of us yelling "shot" after making a good shot.)
Note for example that the Koreans often yell "cho" after a point. They aren't yelling "ball" when they do so and they're definitely not copying the Chinese :D
As discussed elsewhere on the forum, the best explanation is that "cho" is just a way to pump yourself up.

Great match. Those kids have incredible quickness. They were running to attack balls that were on the other side of the court. Like RSM in his prime, etc. Amazing.
It looked like Lin was very aggressive and had more power but Song Hongyuan had a more well rounded game. I liked his blocks and lobbing/fishing... Waiting for Lin to make the mistake.

re: Koki Niwa-Wu Jiaji
Just watched this. Oh my goodness, this can't be the next generation of penholders.
Wu Jia-Ji seemed unnecessarily nervous and more shaky than an bowl of jello. Always looking back away from the table after a miss. Wiffing balls left, right and center. Wonder why they picked him.
In particular, Song Hongyuan would have been a much better pick for the team final. Seems solid as a rock. Wonder if they were forced to field a token penholder?

Lin has big swings for both his forehand and backhand, and has powerful shots like Chen Qi. Even his forehand serve looks like Chen Qi's. Hao Shuai's strokes are not as big as his.

i think song played bad before the finals cos he barely won over danilo toma from brasil 3-2 and they didnt wanted to take risk...wu is good but still not solid but great spirit whn playing OTOH among young chinese penholders there is zheng and fang cbut i think hinese must be testing wu jiaji.
lin played bad in the final i think zhou deserved to play the final better than lin but song has an more allround powerplay

Well there you go for comparison. I definitely see more Chen Qi than Hao Shuai.
Interesting the difference in the 2 levels of players. Though they both look impressive, the two pairs of adults vs juniors, the adults keep the ball sooo much lower and have a lot more spin when pushing.
