He is a USA player, something like 2300 or so. Goes to pro tours, but i don't know if he's won an international match before. I'm not trying to rag on him though, It's probably a lot of fun to go overseas and get worked by guys like that. I'd do it if I could, too.

I don't think he's won a game yet on the Pro Tour... He's popular in Japan for some reason (as a rapper, I think) and travels to Asia quite a bit. The rest of the time he's based at SPiN in NYC.

I don't know where Wally's funding comes from, but it's definitely not from USATT. They provide some funding for national team members to compete in ITTF junior events (Ariel, Lily, Michael...) but not for regular Pro Tours. That could actually be a reasonable priority because the tournament would most likely be over after two qualifying matches.

Ya, that makes sense. Maybe as they get older (hopefully better too), they can compete in pro tours / u21 etc.

I think they always been threats to the Chinese Mens and Womens
Maybe Japanese men players disappeared for a few years, but now they are back on the scene. What I think is so important is that they are still so young, and possibly still haven't even reach close to they peaks yet.
Japan and Korea also has good TT development system.
Now we just need more countries to come through, if there is maybe 7 countries that can challenge China, that means any quarter final winner can win the tournement.

Koki does two things that give Ma trouble - play left-handed and play close to the table. Mz Long likes to wind up and Koki can take that time away. Koki's block away from Ma wasn't working as well at it did the last time.

Well, in my opinion, Mizutani or Kishikawa were never really a threat to the CNT let alone Kazuhiro or Matsudaira brothers. As far as Korea goes, Ryu a threat? hell no (he's always matched up with WH and always looses), Joo could never threaten CNT as a chopper unless they have a bad day or are just lazy to move (zhang jike and the latest loss to JSH). Oh with his passive blocking style can't beat explosiveness and power of the chinese trio.
For the ladies, both Kasumi and Ai are to "weak" against the chinese girls, I dont know much about Hirano, though. How is she standing against the chinese?
But are right, both Japan and Korea have produced quite a couple of promising talents. Not that I am against Chinese domination but I would really like watching major events with a little more tension and thrill than just having the usual - ma long / zjk / xx / wh. I wish Germany had young talents as well, though. Timo is getting old, Dima is improving and has the potential. Apart from those two, there's nobody to fight the top leagues :///

Vutiendat,
If you want to compare like that, then no non Chinese player can really be allowed to be in this comparison table. Not even Timo Boll (as per your RSM - where he pushes WH to 6 or 7 games so many times).....
Guess I was just generalising, that Japan and Korea are there, but not just with 1 player, but a few players that can give Chinese a run for they money. And if not today, atleast this system that is in place (for past 20 years) can cause trouble in the long run. It is a pity that Sweden has faded away, and Germany didn't produce a second Timo, Dima still has a bit more to progress. I know there are some youngster coming up, but non that is threatening as a 18/19 year old.
So imagine in Europe you have Sweden/Germany, Asia you have Japan/Korea and China's B teams of HK/SG, and maybe one or two more can be added in the future to really challenge CNT. I think then the games will be much more exciting to win (and more pressure for the CNT players)

Yea, i was talking about current generation rather than the past (i dont have much knowledge about it anyway).
Do you think Sweden has players good enough to challenge CNT? As far as I can tell, Jorgen is "the best" right now and well, he's old?:DDDD
Yup, I just hope for more exciting games. I dont really think any country could top the Chinese for years to come but at least they can offer a real challenge. Looking forward to it.

Forget Olympics, forget everything and just let this great player win one last one in his home town. I'm sure he will be in tears if he wins.
I think he should be retiring very soon..... and a pity that he couldn't get Grand Slam when he was in his peak.

XX has indeed been utilizing his BH better, I think he's found a better balance between FH and BH now. In the first two sets he played in a more neutral position like ZJK, which IMO just isn't his game.

Daring service by XX at 9-9 in the 5th, a long, relatively slow topspin service to ZJK's FH, don't see that often in the pros. ZJK missed it badly and it got into his head, missing the 2nd consecutive service receive at 10-9 to lose the set.

ZJK couldn't make a FH flick to save his life, and XX wins the 6th game and the match comfortably!
I think XX's BH play really took ZJK by surprise, and ZJK just didn't have a proper plan B figured out without relying on hitting wide to XX's FH when he side steps.

100% agree.
That's a major change in his game. Look at the earlier match OSE. Same thing. That slow spiny BH he used to do to set up his FH is gone. % wins on his BH drive went way up. Does more of 1 2 combo BH then FH, but is winning more points outright with his BH. His short game to ZJK's FH was incredible. Kept him contained. He is driving his BH more like WH.
I am really looking forward to the final.

Must be the first time I've seen WH using the traditional penhold backhand in a game. He was close to the table and all ready to make a RPB shot, but the ball hit the net and veered a bit to the right toward his elbow, around the switch-over point. He wasn't in position to make a RBH shot anymore, especially since he was in the process of moving to his left, and there wasn't enough time to draw his arm back for a FH shot, so he just turned his racktet around and made a nice, quick TPB shot for the winner.
