RR tournaments every Wed. 4) Westside Table Tennis and 5) Pasadena Table Tennis (alphatabletennis.com) Los Angeles and Pasadena- Wei Wang's Clubs Saturday Night RR and Tuesday Night RR. 6) California Table Tennis (californiatabletennis.com) Rosemead- Jun Gao's new club. Haven't been there yet. 7) Joseph Bae (baett.com) Santa Ana- In Northern Orange county. Close to Disneyland. Yes Allen and sons is located next to Topanga mall which is huge, you can find just about any store in there, and the club is a great place to play at. Hope to see you there . |

From the El Monte clubs, your wife can go to Arcadia's Santa Anita mall, about two miles north. El Monte is about 15 miles from LA downtown. If you plan to play RR on Saturday at LATTA, call to verify that RR is scheduled for that Saturday, as there are too many events happening in LA. Best time to come to LATTA is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. There will be many more players to play with. Now my plan is to stay in LA on Aug 15-19-20-21 and 16-19 in Palm Spring. 16(Friday) - wife got interview all day. I'll in LA but with 3 1/2 yr old girl with me.....not sure how much I can play. The Palm Desert Civic center has a table tennis club. They play mon, wed and fri You can call the civic center at (760) 568-9697 to get the exact schedule of play Walk in fee is $5 |

A great inexpensive day drive outing. It is better with a convertible or on a motorcycle but still good in any auto. Start at Mulholland Drive Lookout above the Hollywood Bowl. Do the pedestrian view first then proceed (for a total trip of about 2 1/2 hours) on Muholland Drive which at some point becomes Mulholland Highway (approximately at Freedom Park in Calabasas. Proceed to Kanan Road then to Malibu Beach. You will go through a mountain area on the highway with many stopping points with great views. Return trip (not included in time above) 30-45 minutes is via Highway 1 along the coast to Santa Monica Pier which is a nice to place for the kids too. | Bogey Hunter - if you are a chopper, going to Allen & Sons would be a waste of time unless they agree to turn the table you play on sideways to give you room to back up and chop. If you are a chop blocker, then it should be ok. |

Allen and Sons is my only choice on Fri before 5 pm. Can't go far. I don't think those players who can loop my chop will show up at 1 pm on Friday. Still open to any suggestion. This is my 2nd trip ever in L.A. First was 2004 but didn't look to play or find clubs coz I started playing TT in 2006. Another side trip with the above, Leo Carrillo Beach which is 1.5 miles long, has some tide pools, great rock formations, small rock caves, etc. Only 9 miles north of Malibu Beach on PCH 1 highway. This is really a neat place. The whole family will enjoy this place. I personally like this beach better than Malibu. Great place for a picnic ! That Mulholland drive above is really neat too. I have done both a few times. My first TT in Cali has started!!! First - somehow I felt like playing in Denver. Ball seems to hang in the air. I know it shouldn't be but that how I felt for 30 mins. Anyone feel the same? I saw the warm ups. The other guy couldn't loop back two chops in a row. Both players played like noobs in the first 6 balls. After that bogeyhunter just had to get the ball back and the other guys would self destruct. The first game was poor. I don't think bogeyhunter was even trying. I don't think the other guy actually 'won' any points. The third game was pathetic. There was one rally where bogey was trying to keep the rally going. The other guy was totally outclassed. Whether the other guy was 1200 or 1600 it would make much difference because the only points he got were from bogey's mistakes and bogey wasn't trying. These were not good videos for guessing ratings since we know bogey's rating and the other guy didn't put up a fight. Let me correct myself. All the games were poor. Bogeyhunter was way out of my league. I don't really ever
get into my game watching those videos. Since I had no chance of winning,
Bogeyhunter had mercy on me and started working me out. Great experience, I
learned a lot. I definitely gained more from our interaction than he did. He
needs to move out to California and I would be the first to hire him as a
coach. He gave me some great things to work on. I started playing Table Tennis in January 2011 and still consider myself a beginner. I actually never played anyone over 2100 in my life. One thing I noticed is he had a repertoire of shots. He probably can adapt to his opponent really well. Unfortunately I'm a one trick pony and if that trick doesn't work, I'm out of luck. I agree with TT4me when there is such a separation in abilities it's difficult to tell what you are looking at.BH- Thanks for recognizing my serves. I work on them a lot. 2200-2400 is way out of the league of most of us. The only thing that is deceptive about it is that Bogeyhunter uses pips so sometimes, you get a ball to drive and if you pounce on that ball with authority and get lucky, you might look great. But like you said, he doesn't let you show your real game.
I liked your game. A lot of good stuff to build on. If you've never played anyone over 2100 (especially pips players), you should do so more often because your fitness is great - just need to improve the quality of those spin spots. For the push, you need more forward motion and less downward motion. My estimate of Toprank is about 1800. So Bogey just had a decent upset by beating a player rated 200 points above him.

Your estimate is way too high and because the match is so one sided. Here is another question. How big a handicap do you think toprank would need to make the match even? That means toprank would win the match half the time. I go to Allen and son's club and I am a chopper and looper. there is enough space to chop for sure. as for Fovad Kaseb who is rated 2240 I must say his rating is way higher than that but he is not practicing much anymore and he doesn't play too hard because he doesn't want to get injured, he needs to be healthy to be able to coach. Fovad Kaseb is the former coach of the Iranian national team and was number one in that country for 18 years, he was also the main coach of Noshad Alamiyan up until 2 years ago. regarding toprank, I also know him and he is a very good player who is improving very fast with a great style. |

Space at A and S is not bad but to play O2300 like Fovad most choppers need more space. You're providing inspiration for a new and old generation of LP users ! Those 3 guys have their own LP group with style variation, so they are obviously adept at playing a new pip player. With yourself given rating of 1569.7 you played over your head to stay with those guys ! Next time I go to LA, I am going to try my luck at those guys, once with double inverted and once with my LP's, to see how I fare ! I got schooled by an old Chinese pro with LP's several years ago for several months. He used every trick, twiddled the paddle behind his back with the ball in air while serving, twiddled paddle after serving and between points, used identical except different color rackets every other game, etc. If you pushed the ball to him he could control hit either corner of the table like he had the ball on a string. It shocks me how many people don't know this or aren't able to work it out after watching Bogeyhunter play.

Let's see now... 1600 USATT would put you somewhere in the middle top of Div 4 city here. Bogeyhunter is a Div 1 city top player, likely a candidate for an upgrade to Div 0 (Yes ZERO, meaning he might be too good for Div 1 city) That is at least 3, prolly 4 levels of difference between his true class and his joke rating in his signature.
