Sorry. This is my first time posting to this newsgroup and I posted this to the wrong forum. It should be on a separate topic and I can't fix it. Oh well.

Update: the club is open and it is going great! We are getting players from all around the area. Lots of people from all over Masshachusetts and Rhode Island. In fact, this weekend we are hosting our first USATT sanctioned tournament and we are exceeding expectations with signups and inquiries. Cool thing is that The Herald News is sponsoring so we are getting a lot of exposure.

Check us out! www.SmashTTC.com.

Good luck with the tournament. I would have gladly come and played (about 1 hr drive for me; that's quite OK) but family obligations keep me at home for the entire weekend.

How do you guys manage to maintain the full-time club with 8 tables without a large TT community around you? That's amazing...

The owners are devoted in making table tennis popular in this country.  At this moment they have
signed up 13 new USATT members for the tournament.  There are no players rated above 2000 level
here but the club has brought out many local basement ping pong players.  Starting a club in small city has some advantages.  Less competition for one, and it's easier to work with local media to get the much needed publicity.  In fact, the tournament is sponsored by the largest local newspaper.  If you're close by, come to play in the tournament this weekend.   Smile

Jim, we are still having some sleepless nights :-) But things are working out. Everyday we are seeing new faces and that keeps us going. We also have many people that are saying "finally!" These guys have visited other clubs but had to drop out because of the driving time required. It is very rewarding to see new faces and develop new players too.

Signups for the tournament are going well beyond our expectations. We have a couple of 2000 players and got one 2300 player! (ANY TAKERS OUT THERE????) We have a large number of unrated players too. The Herald News is really helping too. A big shout out to them for believing in us and joining us in doing something positive for the community.

The tournament is on Omnipong.com. Check out our player roster. We are VERY excited!
