So, I got a sheet of this as part of a tt-japan order.  The price is reasonable-ish from there (but it's very expensive at TT11).  Arrived this morning.

It's made in China, has a glossy, semi-tacky topsheet (looks just like Big Dipper) on a black porous sponge.  No tuning or pre-glue layer visible, no particular smell of anything.

Pics (not great quality unfortunately):

Pics added.  I have a tournament this weekend so I won't be mixing my equipment around until that's out of the way.  Will report back when I've had chance to give it a blast.

On one hand it seems like Palio-Yasaka hybrid (similar to Zap rubbers). OTOH, rather pricey for China-made ribber...

It's very expensive for Chinese.  Heavy and hard too.  I'm probably not going to like it.

I see that Andy added some additional thoughts over at ttdaily

This is the first I've heard of this rubber. $43 at TT11.... say what?!!!

even $30 at tt-japan.

uh, yeah... no

From TT-Japan for around that price, you could buy Rhyzm, a rubber from the Vega/Boost family, or X-Tend HS.

I like Rising Dragon. After breaking it in it's simi-sticky only, not traditional Chinese. More spin than T05, and slower but not by much. Not overly heavy either. Nice sound on the blade that was testing on. Like it but $40 is still too much. $30 at tt-japan is OKish.

I haven't updated this thread.  Mainly because a clubmate was looking for a tacky rubber and I let him try Rising Dragon.  He loved it, bought it off me, and that was that.  So I ended up with very little time to try it out overall - just a few hours.

I stole his bat last night and had a quick bash once more to refresh my memory.  The tack has almost completely gone - it's just barely there now.  It felt super nice actually - the topsheet is good, but the sponge performed very well.  If I closed my eyes, I could believe that it was a Jap sponge.  Although it's hard, it still has a useful elastic feel and reminds me most of a hard variant of Stiga's Airoc sponge.  Certainly a more modern feel to a typical hard chinese rubber, nicer for a regular tensor user like me, and a step up from the harder versions of Big Dipper (for example).

I'm not saying that RD is actually using a Jap sponge though.  No way to be 100% sure.

I'll probably order another sheet on my next tt-japan spree.

Andy, can it possibly be good enough to justify $30 a sheet? I just ordered a few sheets of Rasant variants at $30 a sheet, including shipping! Rising Dragon would of course be $30 plus shipping at tt-japan. I'm struggling to believe it's worth it.

I'm not sure.

It's definitely not worth €45-50, which is the range most euro stores are charging.

$30?  Maybe.  Shipping isn't cheap at tt-japan though, so I think that pushes it into maybe- territory.

I agree with AndySmith about the sponge, the best part of the rubber. It's hard but still kicks is how I would describe it. Too bad I didn't ask what the hardness of the sponge I used.

I first noticed this rubber a day or two ago over at http://www.tabletennisdb.com/rubber/" rel="nofollow - TTDB.com .  It is currently their "Best Overall" rubber (not that that is saying much with only 6 reviews, but it did catch my attention, leading in " http://www.tabletennisdb.com/top-rubber/spin-desc.html" rel="nofollow - Most Spin ", " http://www.tabletennisdb.com/top-rubber/gears-desc.html" rel="nofollow - Most Gears ", and " http://www.tabletennisdb.com/top-rubber/overall-desc.html" rel="nofollow - Best Overall ").

Hi, thanks for the pics, would love for you to compare Yasaka Rising Dragon with rubbers like ELP, Rakza 7 and Rakza X.

Thanks.

I tried a sheet last night and I was not impressed.  The sponge was pretty dead and lacked power while the topsheet was not very tacky at all.  I normally play T80 and would have expected that my short game would instantly have a little boost from the tack but it did not whatsoever.

Ok, I played with it.

Speed: Omega Asia V > Rising Dragon >> DHS Hurricane NEO3
Spin:  DHS Hurricane NEO3 >> Rising Dragon > Omega Asia V

I would describe Rising Dragon as slightly slower and slightly spinnier version of Xiom Omega Asia V

I personally liked it.

Hard to say : RD is Made in China but R9 is made in Germany . They are different. However, RD is pricy in considering a piece of rubber made in China

R9 has a shiny top sheet not tacky(sticky)just like R7 and unlike RX which has a flat color top sheet. I think the Rising Dragon is a Chinese top sheet and some what tacky(sticky).I have played with all three rubbers and really did not care that much for the Rising Dragon.
It's no H3..

if H3N ia 1 on a scale of Chinese to euro with tenergy 05 at 10.

is rising dragon and/or Chinese dragon more Chinese or euro?

I want something like H3N for my backhand, but probably a little less tacky

may be a 3 on my scale?

this sounds like rising ddragon, now if they made hurricane 3 neo in 1.9 or 2mm that would be awesome for my bh

I have used YRD for more than 1 year. YRD is a Chinese slightly sticky/tacky and more Euro friction/grippy type hybrid rubber. It doesn't have super-spinny serve or pushes, but you can add more spin with just a little bit of wrist action. Rubber is not super-fast either, and you can hit a lot harder to make it go faster. This rubber is good when you are struggling to keep ball on the table, trouble receiving serve, push returns, opening flick or attacks, moving away from Euro rubbers becos they are too fast, or too soft, or too spinny and overreacting. So for a player developing more Chinese style game, but not fully playing with strong power and spin this rubber bridges the gap.

YRD gives very reactive return based on input from player. If you wish to play soft touch you can. If you wish to play hard strokes you can without bottoming the rubber or ball flying off.

YRD is medium-low throw. YRD topsheet helps play brush stroke as well as sink into the sponge strokes as well.

Challenging to play far-away from table with enough power to beat ball past the opponent. Close- and mid-distance from table works very well.

Long push seems very sensitive, short push needs more height adjustment probably due to the medium-low-throw.

No.1 reason to buy this rubber ? Quality ! Every batch of rubber is similar to every other batch. Rubber is still so good after more than 1 year and I can still play with same feeling!

YRD Red rubber is softer and seems more fragile less durable. YRD Black is good as new even after 1 year.
