One of our club members made a comment about the tackiness of his Tenergy.  I said something about it not being tacky but instead grippy.  He said his was tacky and could lift a ball off the table and hold it briefly.  I did not believe him, but when I tried it picked up a Nittaku and held it longer than my Big Dipper does.  He keeps the DHS tacky sheet protectors on his Tenergy when in the racket case.

Have any of you seen this happen?  Do you think the tack level will be constantly changing during a session since it presumably comes from the protector sheet and not as part of the rubber itself?  What difference would you expect from a "tacky Tenergy" vs a factory fresh one?

Mark

Pretty sure it was 05, but might have been 05FX.

probably he did something to it or he's using those sticky protector sheets to make it temporarily tacky. in either case, it doesn't really matter since tenergy's enormous spin potential is mechanical. tackiness would not help it much since it's also fast rebound with spring sponge. and if you're hitting so lightly where it would matter, you shouldn't be using tenergy.

Did he use dettol  4-in-1 or something similar to clean the rubber?

From Butterflyonline (USAdistributor) or Paddle Palace so not likely fake.

As mentioned in OP he does use DHS tacky sheet protectors which I assume the tack is coming from.  Is this negating some of the properties that makes Tenegy so popular?  What would likely be different if he stopped using the sticky sheet protectors?
