You have to find another way of returning that serve as urgent as possible :)

Nice win in the end!

Game looks cleaner than mine but with less power - relatively stronger backhand but both sides are clean - the serves are legal, but they are also too straightforward to be deceptive.  Short serve return and probably serve return as a whole is probably a liability.  I would put you in the 1600-1900 bracket.

Next level I can live with that, that's better than I thought I would get?.

Serve and serve return, that's where I need the most improvement I think. And no more ejing.

You should loop back almost every fh serve of his, all were high enough for that

~1600 against this particular opponent. No idea how you would do against penhold hitters, LP push-blockers, choppers, coached juniors who try to loop everything, or close to the table blockers who move you around - your actual rating is more or less a weighted average against diverse styles you run into in the tournaments.

im ok v penholders
I smash up lp players of all styles
choppers don't bother me
coached juniors who are so stupid they just loop everything destroy me if they have a bh, if they only have fh I eat them for breakfast

but anyone with spinny or deceptive serves normally beat me easy

Judging by that description, you must be at least 2200+ Big smile , since I was beaten by pretty much everyone on this list. Including LP players who never gave you enough smashing opportunities etc.

good strokes but it seems you don't play games as much as you practice. In other words your rating should be at a  lower level  than your  mechanics.  I personally think the later is more important.

Return of serve is very weak, plus your serves won't scare anyone.  Your backhand looks great.  Because of weak serve return by both players I didn't get to see many long rallies.  I'd go 1500 only because of the serves.  Could be much better with improvement of the serving game.

Simon looks really happy umpiring the game!....

Did you get to play him as well btw?

Tricky one to guess the rating but by the video I guess around the 1650 to late 1800's so middle out at 1700 and something.

The guy you are playing I'm guessing isn't ranked very high in the UK so UK rating wise top 550-600? or am i way out.

After watching the video I will go into the 1600's plus.  You're about 2250 on nets and edges.

Yeah.  I was thinking 1700.  I don't think his footwork/movement is good enough for me to assume 1900. Of course, standard caveat about how difficult it is to deduce rating from a 10 minute video clip..

Yeah.  A great example of umpires in English club matches actually acting as scorekeepers and not really acting as umpires.  :^)

IMO, You have some good thing
1- Good setup backhand serve then smash, very consistent.
2- Good push, heavy back spin
3- Good block with this level
4- Good patient like step back for return the ball without nervous.

Some weakness need to improvement
1- Loop if they return long on forehand.

With this level, you can compete with someone has rating 1900 or less. Your style is simple with one serve but you know how to change location and consistent attack and good block. For someone rating 1900 vs. you without coach outside, it is difficult to defense your setup. If they know how to stop your smash then you will get trouble.
With my estimate, your rating around 1800 - 1900

Just a quick question for you while I am still at work. Why don't you return his serve to his backhand instead of his forehand? Let's he move if he want to smash. I see you keep return to his forehand even he did good smash.

Yeah, you are very good looking...:)
First game you didn't playing good but 2nd and 3rd game you look more confident in the game. The style you play is the style all the Chinese coach teaching their student now.

Here is some good thing I see in your game even you still need to improve more.
1- Return the serve by backhand loop (All the young kid like this way)
2- Good combination between backhand and forehand after backhand loop.
3- Good vary and tricky serve

And here is some weakness need to improvement
1- Need return the serve better, specially on your forehand side.
2- Need service better for against higher players

With my estimate base on US rating, your rating around 1800+ to 1900

you could be anywhere 1300-1800.
Sometimes it's about consistency, style, and luck. There's a 1300 beating 1800 in another post. If you participate only one tournament in US and lose to him, you will be 1300 at most. Although you might play at 1800 level at your club.
The only way to find out is to buy a ticket to US and register a tournament.
